I am finding that when I use Google voice it really can't cope and never understands what I am saying. Never had these problems with previous phones so I'm a bit perplexed. I was thinking it might be down to processing power but it's a quad core. Anyone else have the same problems?
I've not updated the ROM but have heard that there are other ROMs which may be more efficient. Any input with this issue would be appreciated.

Hi Intel,
Welcome to the forum.
What about with normal phone calls? Can you be heard okay?
I'd also try using a different keyboard or app to communicate with the servers. Just to try and eliminate what the possible issue could be.

yes no problem with normal phone calls and I have to say even better than my old Sammy Note 1!
I'm actually using persistent google search bar on the home screens for voice searches.

Okay, so that likely eliminates a microphone issue.
My point regarding trying a different app, is because we need to troubleshoot what the possible problems could be. Try a different app. Do it from your keyboard, and do it with a 3rd party keyboard, and try evernote.

Hmm very interesting I did what you said and used the Swiftkey keyboard with the voice option and it worked perfectly. I'm baffled why should the google search bar voice option be such a problem?

So we've eliminated microphone problem and eliminated it being a problem with the service itself.
What's left? It's either the Google search bar app, or the persistent listening feature. My guess is it's the persistent listening. Some bug in the firmware most likely.
Next step is try a different firmware.

Are you on stock firmware now?
Yes, generally I recommend going with stock. New firmware doesn't necessarily mean custom firmware.
Possibly there's an update to the stock firmware, but Umi Cross MT6589 is a relatively new phone though, you may have to try some custom firmware.
If your phone is already rooted, then you can put the CWM on your phone through Mobile Uncle. Copy it to SD and then use Mobile Uncle to install it. Then install the new firmware through SD.
