Umi Cross C1 - Issue with Voice !!!! - intel4004 - 2013-12-29 I am finding that when I use Google voice it really can't cope and never understands what I am saying. Never had these problems with previous phones so I'm a bit perplexed. I was thinking it might be down to processing power but it's a quad core. Anyone else have the same problems? I've not updated the ROM but have heard that there are other ROMs which may be more efficient. Any input with this issue would be appreciated. RE: Umi Cross C1 - Issue with Voice !!!! - Sniper47 - 2013-12-29 this may be some sort of mic issue. can people hear you okay when you talk to them on the phone? RE: Umi Cross C1 - Issue with Voice !!!! - intel4004 - 2013-12-29 Yes they can. Only a couple of days ago had a skype video call lasting an hour no problem?! RE: Umi Cross C1 - Issue with Voice !!!! - GizBeat - 2013-12-29 Hi Intel, Welcome to the forum. What about with normal phone calls? Can you be heard okay? I'd also try using a different keyboard or app to communicate with the servers. Just to try and eliminate what the possible issue could be. RE: Umi Cross C1 - Issue with Voice !!!! - intel4004 - 2013-12-29 yes no problem with normal phone calls and I have to say even better than my old Sammy Note 1! I'm actually using persistent google search bar on the home screens for voice searches. Okay, so that likely eliminates a microphone issue. My point regarding trying a different app, is because we need to troubleshoot what the possible problems could be. Try a different app. Do it from your keyboard, and do it with a 3rd party keyboard, and try evernote. RE: Umi Cross C1 - Issue with Voice !!!! - intel4004 - 2013-12-29 Hmm very interesting I did what you said and used the Swiftkey keyboard with the voice option and it worked perfectly. I'm baffled why should the google search bar voice option be such a problem? I'm baffled why should the google search bar voice option be such a problem? So we've eliminated microphone problem and eliminated it being a problem with the service itself. What's left? It's either the Google search bar app, or the persistent listening feature. My guess is it's the persistent listening. Some bug in the firmware most likely. Next step is try a different firmware. RE: Umi Cross C1 - Issue with Voice !!!! - intel4004 - 2013-12-29 Okay I'm sort of new to this and I get the feeling from the reading I've done on Needrom that the stock rom could be better performance wise. I've done a backup of my rom and got a printout from MTKDroid tools MTK Droid Tools Output: Hardware : MT6589 Model : UMI C1 Build number : C1 20131128-145411 Build date UTC : 20131128-065411 Android v : 4.2.1 Baseband v: MOLY.WR8.W1248.MD.WG.MP.V7.F2.P1, 2013/10/24 13:59 Kernel v : 3.4.5 (user@linux-user) (gcc version 4.6.x-google 20120106 (prerelease) (GCC) ) #1 SMP Thu Nov 28 14:51:58 CST 2013 My plan is to download the new ROM and recovery from and use the tutorial to apply root and recovery, though I'm sure my phone already is rooted. I hopefully should then be able to boot into the new recovery and apply the new ROM! Thats the theory anyway , hope I don't cock it up. RE: Umi Cross C1 - Issue with Voice !!!! - GizBeat - 2013-12-29 Are you on stock firmware now? Yes, generally I recommend going with stock. New firmware doesn't necessarily mean custom firmware. Possibly there's an update to the stock firmware, but Umi Cross MT6589 is a relatively new phone though, you may have to try some custom firmware. If your phone is already rooted, then you can put the CWM on your phone through Mobile Uncle. Copy it to SD and then use Mobile Uncle to install it. Then install the new firmware through SD. |
