Hi all and thanks for helping on this forum, very appreciated.
I've just purchased an Haipai-i9389 from myefox and waiting for delivery in few days. I'm asking if someone known if there is an official repository for stock firmawares (original ones) ad cooked ones for this specific devices. It mounts a 4c MTK6589 and it can be rooted as well described in this forum, but my interest is to flash a custom firmware like cyanogenmod 10 with a CWM as recovery , is it possibile, there is something anywhere?
When device will be in my hands what is the first thing to do in your opinion , sequence by sequence?
Thanks all for helping.

First thing is root it. You can see the root threads in the Root forum.
If the quick roots don't work out, then you should make CWM if you can't find one already made for your phone.
As far as I know, Cyogenmod hasn't ever been adapted to MTK. If you want custom firmware, you'll have to make do with LeWa or maybe MIUI, or porting firmwares from other phones

Good to know, there's any official link to follow to land into download page for these kind of custom roms?
Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot. You will have to take an existing firmware and adapt it to your phone. There is a tool you can use to do it. Though some people haven't had luck with it.
There are a couple of different CWM threads. See stickies in Root forum / Other

Hi Gizbeat ,
i've rooted my HaiPai i9389, already done a full backup with mtkdroidtools, and now I'm trying to extract my recovery to compile a CWM instead. I've followed online tutorials and [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register] thread too, i've obtainer a file recovery_original.img (6.144Kb) and a modded recovery_new.img (6.176Kb).
I've read that MTK allowed max memory for recovery partition is 6.133Kb !!
How can I solve this situation to avoid any risk? Someone talks about recovery_original.img reduction and re-compile , have you any advice on this procedure?
If you want to help me I've that two files on my hands, just le me know.
Thanks

Oh well... found a working solutions!
Exists a better compressed 6030.7z that can be downloaded from here
[Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]
inserting this file into /bin on compiler's folder and overwriting existing one you can re-compile your recovery_original.img into recovery_new.img save few Kb and doing all things like they should be done ;)
Hope this can help some one...
Tryed on HaiPai I9389 with success !!

Sorry for the late reply. I was was only half-here for a few days. In regards to your original question, if the recovery is too big, SP Tools shouldn't let you flash it. As long as you don't flash over your bootloader with an improper file, and you have a backup of the original recovery, you should 'always' be safe.
Can you please email me the recovery. [email protected]. I will put it up for future users. Thanks.
