Great you're in the UK. It means the 3G will be compatible with most all of the China models because you have 2100MHz WCDMA/UMTS in UK. The China phone market is your oyster
I started a 3 part series a while back that may address some of your questions. http://gizbeat.com/2348/china-phones-vs-...ht-part-1/ . Part 3 still unwritten, but coming soon.
While it's true some people have had issues with phones lasting 3-6 months, this is mostly phones from 2011 or before. They're built much better than before - assuming you buy a decent brand and not some cheap clone.
Of course we recommend you purchase from one of our sponsors as opposed to Amazon, but Amazon merchants can mostly be trusted as well.
People are generally happy with their Star S5 / Miz z2. It's a good phone. If it were my choice, I'd go with the iOcean you were looking at. For the price and specs, it's a very good deal, but either phone should make you happy. I also recommend you take a look at Jiayu G3S and G4.
Hope you'll stick around. If you have any more questions, feel free to post. One of the members will get back to you.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth
