As the title says, my v3 has found a new owner (good mate matt is now an android convert) and my order has been placed for an orient deal s5.
http://www.orientdeal.com/orientphone-s5...-grey.html
I decided to go the clone option as the design is fairly nice and people should not keep asking what kind of phone it is (the v3 was cool and great looking but got way too much attention lol).
Spec wise its a really decent looking phone, 1.7ghz mtk6592 octacore, 2gb ram, 16gb rom, mali-450 gpu, 5.2" FHD screen, 13mp rear camera and 5mp front and comes complete with s view style cover and 2 batteries in the box.
I just hope that the camera is better than the V3! speed wise it should be plenty quick enough for my needs with antutu scores around 28000 (the V3 felt fairly quick and the antutu scores were not too shabby around 17000 with its meagre 1.3ghz quad core).
My only real concerns for the S5 are rom support (will it get a quick update to the 4.4 goodness that other mtk phones are now seeing?) and the battery life (it comes with 2 batteries in the box), but I won't know how this is until I get it and run it through a few charge cycles, my hope is that it won't have a silly bug like the v3 and that it will charge the battery to 100%.
I will update the thread as soon as the phone arrives (hopefully be with me in 15 or so days).
Does anyone want an un-boxing video etc?

Still waiting for the phone to arrive, the tracking reference shows its on its way (hopefully not too much longer).
Whilst I wait for it, I wonder if anyone knows who manufactures the phone and if there is any news for android 4.4 on the phone (my searches are coming up fruitless).

Yes do out of box, man it's specs was so close, I am looking for replacements for my phones, the Ram throws up flags that the specs are fake to me, 2048 is double 1024 not possible number.
I am looking hard at Flying S5 Smartphone 3G Android 4.4 waiting to get my money back on the JIAKE V8 phones, the Flying S5 already comes with 4.4.
another choice is Elephone P9 Water 5.0Inch Android 4.4 KitKat MTK6592
I look forward to your review will help myself as well as others that are trying to get Android 4.4 on a good device.
I don't understand why these MTK companies all haven't upgraded to Android 4.4 or at least provide an update for it.
The cheap firefox phone even includes an update for Android 4.4.
If you use my scripts or work in your own scripts, your scripts or license should reflect that.

Just sent the following to orientdeal to try and get some update information, I hope that they will be active and push support for their phones.
(my order was placed on the 12/05/2014 so hopefully it should not be much longer till it arrives
good morning,
I am currently awaiting the delivery of my new phone OrientPhone S5(G9000) Order #35385
I will be reviewing the phone on http://www.chinaphonearena.com/forum/Thr...5-on-order
and also submitting a review to another site
I wonder if you can advise when the phone will receive the 4.4 kitkat upgrade, it would be great to be able to let others know that your phones are/will be supported (and hopefully drive more business).
kindest regards and thanks in advance shane
I will update and let you know what they say, also I checked out the flying s5 and it seems to be a really good spec for such a low price (just never heard of the company, does anyone know who manufactures their phones or if it is a rebrand of another clone?)
regards shane

According to your earlier posts, it seemed the V8 phones were very good. What was the problem with them?

Yes 1 phone was good for a short time, hadn't tested other phones at the time of my post, 1 phone was dead completely out of box, another phone GPS and sdcard problem.
all in all not good phones for me, I expect everything on phone to work, as that is what I paid for, if one thing doesn't work then phone becomes of less value to me, for for a short time one phone seemed to be ideal, but after a while not so much, lol.
I had to buy a Straight Talk L38C LG Optimus Dynamic for $29.88 at walmart cause right now I have no phones as I sent them back.
You know what works on the $29.88 walmart phone? everything, gps is dead on no sdcard problems, fast wifi, and 3G so if walmart can sell a $29.88 phone that everything on the phone works, there is no excuse these much higher priced china phones can't do the same.

Well the phone has just arrived and I am having a quick look over it, first complaint is the fact that the alleged 16gb storage is intact just 8gb!
Is there a benchmark or test that I can run to check if the thing has in fact got 2gb ram (or if it is 1gb with a hack to show 2gb)
Had a quick play with the camera and indoors shots are a lot better than the v3 (not got the graining issues), will try some outdoors and low light shots later.
Screen is bright and clear.

Hey, if it does all you need, maybe just stick with it.
I've had good luck with the China phones I've had. They've all had some small issues or another. Example, the W200S notification light doesn't work with the stock ROM, but otherwise it's great.
I'd recommend trying out one of the recent THL offerings. THL T11 is a good choice for America because it has 1900.
Also the Blu-life are decent choices and can be bought in America retail. Though a bit more expensive spec-wise compared to what you get if buying China brands. The benefit of course is that you get a local warranty. Having a local warranty might be a good option for you.

below code will show installed ram, most the time you need to be in custom recovery to get accurate results, but you can try in regular mode, if the phone doesn't have busybox, you can install one from playstore.
Code: adb shell
busybox free -m
