The problem is that the signal bar doesn't display G, 3G or H if you are connected to GPRS, EDGE, UMTS or HSDPA, but you do have an internet connection?

If there is no icon and you have no connection, make sure you have data connection enabled in System Settings -> SIM-Management. Also make sure you have configured the APN correct for your provider. And last(correct me if I'm wrong), I read somewhere that the SIM slots are different and the Nano SIM is better for Data Connections since it supports more Frequencies / Standards. And maybe make sure, that WiFi is disabled, because my phone doesn't do WiFi and 3G at the same time, it switches off one of them if the other one is available.
