I have received an update for my phone. 8.5 Meg zip.
It could update and bug fix to new version 150123 from current 141206.
If I ask the phone to do it: Boots to recovery, unzips, goes dark, comes back to recovery. This shows can't mount sd card.
From there I attempt the update using install zip from sd card myself.
The result includes this:
Installing: /sdcard/adupsfota/update.zip
Finding update package...
Openning update package...
Installing update...
Warning: No file_contextsThis package is for "Android" devices;
this is "MTK".
E : Error in /sdcard/adupsfota/update.zip
(status 7 )
Installation aborted.
What could this mean?
The phone no longer has the stock recovery but is using the upside down English one with the CWM Zip to put it up the right way.

You will need stock recovery to use the FOTA.

I have a number of Backups made. If I go back far enough will the phone have the original recovery. I am sure that I made several before making the English one.
Doing a back up now and that has just gone passed "Backing up recovery image."
Looks hopeful.

Yes, but that will be your current recovery. You need a backup recovery from before you changed to CWM. If you're not on a custom ROM now, you only need to flash recovery.img and maybe boot.img.

Thank you very much for your support.
Yes indeed. I have just had a go with restore of my earliest back up and the mechanism of restore has maintained the updated recovery.
I do have the required tools pack to flash the individual files that I have made in the form of the NVRAM backup before I started mucking about with the phone.
I will have a go at that. It will be interesting to see if the THL have corrected for the time zone issue at the start of my posting. When I am feeling benevolent toward the manufacturer I think that the issue is not existing in their time zone and that they are busting their boilers to correct it.
Restored to date now in the meantime.

Well done me.
I have attempted to replace the recovery section of my phone with the backup I had made with MTK Droid tools. The boot image went ok but the recovery said it was the wrong type for the phone.
After that I used the recovery to do a factory reset but I still have the modified Recovery section so it must be still preventing the FOTA.
Most of my apps and data are recovered and the phone is still a worker but there might be another way.
There is a posted ROM that is an exact match for the Letters and numbers of the update FOTA from need rom. A complete match.
Could I attempt to install that rom and expect all of the phone hardware to function.
Also then I will have whatever the FOTA was offering.
Note after the factory reset the phone faulted " android phone has stopped working" as per my first post and it was necessary to switch time and date settings to proceed.
Alright that was fun. So now I am running a recovery restore of the last backup I made yesterday to see if it remembers more of my settings than I have just tried to do piece by piece. If I am guessing right everything will be back to last night. A couple of phone call records will be missing but that should be all.
Aghh. No it is not. It is the same as my stock rom.

I have had another go at it.
Asking Mobile Uncle to update recovery using the recovery image selected from the nvram backup and moved to where Mobile Uncle could see it in the root of the SD. This file is 16meg as against 6 for cwm.
However the update still failed for reason this time sound recorder app was incorrect causing abort. I had taken the non working sound recorder out.
Good to know what some of the update was for. I may put all of the nvram back into the phone and try again. I doubt that it will work because my phone was hacked about a bit at my request when I ordered it; root and china apps removed.
There might be a way to recover the as installed sound recorder for the update to repair and see what else is crook.
This is engrossing stuff.
Not good... With the first ever backup back in the phone and the clunky THL recovery in service the update has still failed. This time for EMMC: boot blah de blah many letters and numbers has unexpected contents. Too bad.
I will go back to as it was and disable the FOTA and not bother until someone clever posts a workable alternative updated rom for me to try.
The time zone is no real trouble and the recorder I had downloaded was only slightly annoying with advertising but at least it had enough level from the mic to be heard.
