Actually, I added the link after I realized I'd missed the rooting step. So if you didn't double back, it's understandable you wouldn't have seen it.
There are 7 different rooting methods, one of them will surely work. They all basically work the same except for the one from Maine Coon -> [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register] . You can try that one first. It might be easiest for you. It's an apk download/install/run. If it doesn't work, then use the method I linked to above.
You actually might want to run root checker first from Play. It's possible the phone is already rooted. Only takes a few seconds to download and check.

Checked for rooting with rootchecker from Play, not rooted. I then rooted the phone with [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register] and it worked after the second try.
I have now also sucessfully installed xposed and gravitybox, on my MTK6589T...
I appreciate all your great help Gizbeat, I really do - thank you so much...
Kind regards

Does anyone know if there is a difference between Star S5 MTK6589 and MTK6589T regarding rooting guides and software/roms etc.
In other words, can I use the MTK6589 guides and software for my Star S5 MTK6589T 1.5Ghz 2GB ram?
Great phone... Had some problems with wifi and gps though, but used Techdolph's videoguide on youtube to solve the problem. I also had som trouble with the proximity sensor, here i used engineer settings/ekstra/PSensor and calibrated it - now it all works like a charm...
I'm a Little annoyed that no covers are available for this phone, other than the "leathercase" that comes with it... Does anyone know of any silicone covers, for this phone...?
Good on your escape from JAIL - Iphone locks its users into Jail, so they need a JAIL-BREAK.
In Android, I encourage rooting; it shows that we were never in prison, like Apple users are. But you also ask: with so many brands and models of Android phones, how can we get cases, accessories to fit our many Android phones.
Personally I pick established brands (THL, JIAYU, IOCEAN, ...) which eventually develop cases, etc to fit their newest models. Visiting an accessory-parts phone supplier (many types exist), I can also find many silicon cases that fit older or more famous phones.
Silicon rubber cases can be easily cut to shape with a craft-blade, such as a small box cutter. A small electric drill, or an soldering iron, or hot air gun - can also help mould the needed holes, etc - where you need them.
Silicon rubber designed for the brand/ model of my phones is usually TOO FLEXIBLE on the two longest sides. To stop these sides moving away from the phone, I add blue-tack temporary adhesive; also available in white or other colors; (normally to stick small pieces of paper onto the wall).

Hi. I also am having trouble with the proximity sensor which makes it difficult using the phone except if I'm using some hands-free option. You mentioned being able to fix this using engineer settings. How do I access those?

I noticed that others here in the forum had problems with 3g jumping between H H+ and 3g, I noticed mine is doing that too but it hasn't affected my webbrowsing etc. for some reason, yet...???
I want to root my phone, and maybe install custom roms - but I'm still looking for a sane reason to do that. I just came from a iPhone, so this is all new to me...

you can try the engineer mode dial *#*#3646633#*#*. go to *other extra* > *psensor*. then hold your finger over the proximity sensor. that should calibrate it.
another way, is to use the app from google play. look on play for *calibrate proximity*.

It is exactly as Sniper47 says, but you just have to calibrate every time you reboot! It dosen't "hold on" to the calibration for some reason, that's a little annoying...
You can also enter engineer mode via Gravity Box, it's located in the bottom as you enter the app...
Sniper47, I can't find the proximity calibration app you are talking about, in Play - are you sure it's there?
OH damn, I'm sorry Sniper47 for mixing up the user names... Thank you for adjusting this...
