On my new i6000 it says i'm in roaming mode all the time, ie i get an 'R' over the signal meter
Can't use mobile data if i don't enable data roaming in settings.
It's not a problem with coverage or weak signal, it shows full or almost full.
The setup:
Two SIMS, one Telia, one Tele2. Both cards handles 3G. I'm living in Sweden for you who wonders.
Test matrix:
Full size SIM slot: A
Micro size SIM slot: B
Telia SIM: 1
Tele2 SIM: 2
Telia SIM is my data card.
One SIM at the time
A-1 Roaming, 3G is working
B-1 Roaming, 3G is working
A-2 Roaming, 3G is working
B-2 Roaming, 3G is working
Both SIMS
A-1/B-2 Roaming on both, 3G activated on A-1
A-2/B-1 Roaming on both, 3G activated on B-1
But here is when it gets interesting:
If i switch main 3G card, without switching anything else, ie using the 'main' card for voice, the following happens:
A-1/B-2 No Roaming, 3G activated on B-2, using A-1 for voice
A-2/B-1 No Roaming, 3G activated on A-2, using B-1 for voice
I can even disable the card where 3G is activated and still have mobile data functionality.
This isn't a valid solution though since i get really bad speed with this configuration.
When in roaming mode (what the phone tells me) I have called Telia customer service and they confirm that from what they see i'm correctly registered on the network, ie not roaming.
I hope you understands my problem, how i have tested and the outcome.
Now to my question:
Have anyone else had the same problem? Anyone with a remedy?
Right now it's more of an annoyance than a real problem, but i want to get rid of those pesky 'R'

Please make sure your APN settings are correct. Though I imagine they're correct if Telia is telling you you're on the network okay.

APN Settings
For Tele2:
Code: Name: Tele2 Internet (Desire: Tele2 Internet GPRS)
APN: internet.tele2.se eller surf.tele2.se
Proxy: <tomt>
Port: <tomt>
MMSC: <tomt>
MMS proxy: <tomt>
MMS port: <tomt>
MCC: 240
MNC: 07
Autentiseringstyp: <tomt>
APN type: <tomt> (galaxy: internet + mms) (Desire & HTC-Gratia : default [case sensitive!])
For Telia:
Code: Name: Telia online (galaxy s: Telia SE WAP)
APN: online.telia.se
Proxy: 10.254.254.254
Port: 8080
MCC: 240
MNC: 01
Authentication type: None (galaxy s: PAP)
APN type: default (galaxy s: internet)
Set APN: Settings > Under Wireless and Networks, tap 'More' > Mobile Networks > APN / Access Point Settings
Make sure they're correct. If not correct, then change or add a new one (From APN > Tap menu button and then 'New APN')
Let us know how it works out it.

Same problem with my phone, I have a HDC S6 MTK6589T and using Telenor Sweden. All settings are correct and the phone support our gsm and wcdma bands because with roaming activated I get Edge, 3G, H and H+ without problem.
It is very frustrating.

I'm using Telfort, but when using Telfort you are ALWAYS roaming, because Telfort uses the KPN network. I guess that's the same with your contractors.
You could install Xposed with GravityBox module; you can set national data roaming to 'connect to data services when nationally roaming'.
I may not understand the problem, but I don't have any problems with roaming :-)

Hi and thx for the answer. My settings are correct so thats not the problem.
I did some more troubleshooting last night and got some interesting results:
Using MobileUncle i changed to using GPRS only, no WCDMA, and voila the roaming indicator disappeared. The bandwidth was horrible though (GPRS) so its not usable in the long run. My conclusion to this is that there is some difference in how the phone perceive the net it connects to and what the net says and therefor assumes it's in roaming mode. I have checked and what i can discern is that Telia supports WCDMA.
The whole business is strange...

Hi and thx for your suggestion.
Telia is one of the main operators in Sweden so they have their own net. That's why the roaming indicator is annoying and why i want to understand (and being able to remedy) the underlying problem.

It's possible that it's as Squier said. They may lease their 3G from someone else. But it's a weak guess because they are fairly major providers.
My advice, if you're not being charged for it, don't give it a second thought.
If it's making your OCD kick-in, you could try a different firmware to see if that solves the issue.
Also, just for information - You should be able to set it to GPRS only through Android settings.

Telfort is one of our major operators too, but they don't own any network. The only three network owners over here are KPN, Vodafone and T-mobile. All other companies are using their networks. But if Telia has their own network, don't know what causes the Roaming indication.

Already mentioned this in post #4. Also, GravityBox offers more than just switching on/off national roaming.
