V3 falling apart [or how to change color of home button]
#31
The exact same thing has happened to me over the last 2 days, the glue at the bottom has come unstuck. I'm going to take this as an opportunity to change the color of the capacitive buttons, all of them, not just the home button. Probably go for red or green or something. I'll also experiment with some different ways of reattaching the screen. I may even completely remove the screen and remove all of the original glue before reattaching it.

I'll post photos etc after I've finished messing around with it.

Which thickness tape did you buy? 1, 2 or 3 mm?
My phone is still in one piece, but just to be prepared for when it will happen,...

sounds cool!
will be waiting on the photos, id imagine red would look really cool esp for the home button Smiling, maybe green on the menu and yellow on the back Smiling
itd be really cool if you could make a tutorial on how to do the whole thing, (remove screen, what to use to change home key colours etc Smiling
thanks alot Thumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpBig Grin

I Completely forgot that i was going to take photos of the process! I did it while I had some spare time at work.

All three capacitive buttons are now neon pink! Big Grin

For anyone that is interested ill walk you through what i did.

I carefully lifted away the screen from the body, the original adhesive was terrible so this was quite easy. Then i peeled off the blue light filter from the home button and the two small white filters from the outer buttons.
I peeled away all of the original adhesive, it came off cleanly, no trouble at all.
I cut a long rectangular strip of the new filter (pink note paper), enough to cover all three buttons.
I then got my new adhesive (I used loctite 406) and used a cotton bud to spread a thin layer where the original adhesive went.
I placed the new filter in position, made sure it was touching the adhesive slightly to hold it in place, and pressed the screen down into position.
Loctite 406 is very fast drying so I didn't need to hold the screen down for very long before it set.

Overall I am happy with the result, the only thing i would do for next time is take more care when removing the original light filters - i used a scalpel to lift the corners and accidental scrapped off some of the black around the back button so now there are pink specks next to it.

Some extra info -

I used loctite 406 because it is rapid drying, designed for plastics, and performs well under heat.

I did not attempt to completely remove the screen as i was not in a static safe work environment (Too lazy to walk to down the hallway to a different workshop).

I will never be able to remove the screen in this phone without the risk of damaging it, because Loctite doesn't come unstuck.

Will upload a photo of the end result when i get some batteries for my camera (Probably the only thing i own that still uses AA batteries...)

EDIT: Instead of finding batteries i came up with an ingenious method of capturing a photo.

thanks alot really appreciate it, so i presume you didnt need to use any screws to remove the screen , just lifted it off?, also do you think i should go witht he loctite 406 or use some double sided tape as some others on the forum have, mind you i havnt done this kinda thing before so whatever is easier i guess Smiling

Correct, no screws at all (Screws would mean higher manufacturing costs)

It is entirely over to you whether or not you use a permanent adhesive or double sided tape. I personally chose loctite because i did not want my screen coming unstuck again at an inconvenient time, and i knew i would not be removing the screen again on this phone. (I don't usually repair phones, if i break it, its time for an upgrade ;) )

In terms of difficulty, i would say anybody could do either method, just use the glue sparingly. Using a cotton bud to spread it stops you getting it in places you don't want glue.

P.S Just added a photo

I always encourage people to do repairs themselves. A lot of people don't realize that the 'technicians' they pay for at the repair shops don't know anymore than anybody else (this forum has much more information than any repair man will be able to give you).
Unless you are going to somebody who has worked for iNew and assembled the V3 before then you are better off doing it yourself. Also when you are finished you realize you were about to pay 50 dollars for about 30 seconds work.

Just reporting that double-sided tape does not hold anymore.

When it completely falls off I will use superglue...

Hey,

I'm new here and had the same problem with the screen falling off.

I managed to glue it together and the screen is 5* again but I probably managed to pull the sound cable out sightly thats running behind the top of the screen.

Since the screen is now glued, is it possible to fully dissasemble the phone from the backside and just replug the cable?

Its still on its original place probably but a little bit pulled.

pls help Crying
