[Update] MediaTek MT6735 Review – Full Mode 4G LTE Chipset

MediaTek MT6735 Review – Full Mode 4G LTE Chipset

MTKMediaTek’s most recent update is a 4G LTE chip with 64-bit architecture implemented, but more significantly, it supports a full range of network connectivity. The chipset has been designated as MT6735, with a corresponding low-end version, MT6735M. The standard version will employ a 4-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, clocked at 1.3GHz to 1.5GHz. If it is […]

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
If you're betrayed, release disappointment at once.
By that way, the bitterness has no time to take root.

There are many reports of the Mediatek MT6735M and I suspect that they are all based on the leaked Mediatek 'Smartphone Product Roadmap'. Now as far as I can see, Mediatek have never announced an MT6735M SOC. A search on their web page yields no results.

Could it be that the Roadmap was just one possible future and not set in stone?

Does the MT6735M actually exist? Why do Mediatek not mention it? There are a number of phones that purport to have an MT6735M, like the Cubot X12 and the Elephpone G9. Both have a 1GHz CPU, a qHD or less screen and an 8MP or less camera which fits with the roadmap. But what about the Zopo ZP330? It claims a Mali T720 GPU at 450MHz, which would suggest the 'M' variant, although the claimed CPU is the MT6735 with a clock speed of 1.5GHz. Also, they boast of an Antutu score of around 15,000 - far too low for a 1.5GHZ 64bit quad core.

What about the Vkworld VK6735? No mention of the 'M' variant, but a clock speed of 1.0GHz - that sounds like the MT6735M. But wait, it has a 720P HD screen and 13MP camera - that can't be the 'M'. Oh, and an Antutu score of 31,000. I don't believe either the MT6735 or the MT6735M could achieve that.

Can we believe anything that Chinese smartphone manufacturers tell us?

The problem is that there are often several variants for each SoC. The MT6735 is a real SoC. I don't see why it wouldn't hit 31k. As to whether there's an M version, IDK.

The Mlais MX Base is coming soon. Very much looking forward to that phone.

http://www.mlais.com/html/201506/content_184.html

As to whether you can trust China companies.... Some you can, some you can't, some you just have to read between the lines, and some themselves don't know the details between various departments. Eg, the marketing dept. may not have the same info the "engineers" have.

Also, Asian companies in general, especially ones that aren't international, aren't really known for their attention to detail.

Digging a little deeper, it appears that there is an 'M' variant, and a 'P' variant too. I think this is where the confusion arises.

The base version MT6735 supports a CPU clock speed of 1.5 GHz, a T720 MP2 GPU clocked at 695 MHz and support for 13 MP cameras.

The MT6735M has its CPU clocked at 1.0 GHz, a T720 MP1 GPU at 450 MHz and support for 8 MP cameras.

Then there is the MT6735P. This also has a 1.0 GHz clock on the CPU, a T720 MP1 at 600 MHz and support for 13 MP cameras.

It looks like the base model should achieve an Antutu score in the mid to high 20,000s, the P model in the low 20,000s and the M model a bit less. 30,000 is more in the realm of the MT6732, which has a T760 GPU.

As for the Zopo ZP330 and the VKworld VK6735, I think they both have the P variant. I have since seen Antutu scores for the Zopo of 21,500-24,000, which seems about right.

@cookiedough - I think you are correct in suspecting that Sales and Tech live in different worlds, and not just in Chinese companies. Your upcoming Mlais MX Base has a monster battery, but I would wait until someone has reviewed the actual device and measured the battery capacity! Rolleyes

Hopefully MX has the full version with the better GPU. CPU clocked at 1.3GHz, but only 8MP camera. Mlais is generally good about reporting true specs. Hopefully the battery spec is real.
