The tool has several uses. Writing IMEI, scatter file creation, rooting older MTK devices, ROM backup etc... The main use for rooting MTK6589 would be scatter file creation if needed. DL it and take a look.

Yes, that's why I said "older MTK devices". It's not for MTK6589. At least this version isn't. Maybe in the future.

There is a newer version out now (2.4.3)...don't really know the differences as it appears that rooting still isn't functional...unless I'm doing something wrong. There are like ZERO GOOD tutorials out there on how to do this stuff.
