[Thai K-Touch W806] Loy krathong Thailand

There's no doubt, this picture won't win any rewards based on quality, but wanted to share this with the users on the board.

I must admit I'm more than a little disappointed that so few have shared pictures, but I'll continue to do so. Hopefully at some point, more users will share some of their daily lives and what it looks like where they live and what they do.

Nice little scooter in the back there ;)
Though I can't figure out what those things are in the front... fake plants?

And now some critique (or opinion)... As with most Chinese phone cameras, there's something missing... something in the colors. The greens don't look as they should. Aaaand that's about it. Cool pic.

They're not fake at all. They're made from banana leaves and flowers, with a slice of banana tree as a base. The smaller, brightly colored floats leaning against them are made of bread (yes, I tasted it Smile )

It's a huge national festival where the whole nation lets off fireworks everywhere in public for a week straight, and float krathongs down rivers - in honor of their loved ones and to release/let go of their greed, angers, fears, resentments. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loi_Krathong

Some of them are huge and take many many many hours to create. https://www.google.com/search?q=krathong&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=6KeIUsn4GIv7rAfQ64EI&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=654

It's a really special time here in Thailand. I wish I was going to the city, but I don't have it in me to travel 2 hours to the city tonight. Regardless, there's some celebrations here in the small town I'm in, and I'll be joining in a bit, as well as releasing my krathongs in the river.

As to the quality of the photo, yes it's not so good. But good enough to show the scene.

Thanks very much for your comment Bert.

Wow.
That's really cool.
You know what? I actually wanted to ask if they were some kind of cake... because they looked edible. I wasn't far off.

They're really nice... and I love the Khom Loi (thanks Wiki). I saw them in The Hangover 2, and always wondered what they were all about.

Okay, yes. I guess the bread ones are fake plants/flowers. I thought you were referring to the middle ones.

The bread ones are cool because the fish can eat them Thumbs Up

I'm going to release some lanterns tonight as well.

The biggest expense is the plane ticket. From USA it's $1000 one way. If you come, I'll buy you a beer gesamgr. Thumbs Up
