Hi folks,
Quick update...
Just popped into the phone shop for a 'chat' about the progress (or in this case, lack of).
Basically they turned round and said that they cannot get the part even though they said that they had ordered it when I popped in there last week (Wednesday)...lying gits.
Anyways, I'm back at square one...do I order it myself and have the other shop (see previous posts/replies) replace it...or give it up and buy another phone? Which is ruddy annoying as I liked using the U2 as it was a perfect size, fast enough for me and came with a great camera.
Any thoughts please as the dirt cheap Nokia phone I bought as a stand in is beginning to annoy me.
Thanks in anticipation, Gaz.

Go with the glass or glass+LCD. Try it yourself or have the shop do it. Or give it a go at first and if proves too difficult then bring to the shop. Depending on your budget, scrap it and order a new one.
If it were me, I'd go with just the glass and do it myself, but I'm a cheap bastard and often make my life much more difficult to save a few bucks. Though granted, I sometimes learn something in the process. If you like to tinker and are on a budget, give it a go.
This is a decision only you can make. Count yourself among the extremely lucky if this is the most difficult you need to make this week

Lol, cheers Sniper for the reply...it's a helluva decision to make and not one to take lightly.
I'll more than likely put up with the irritating new phone and order the glass/lcd myself and have the shop fit it for me...rather than making a total dogs dinner of it and ending up with a completely knackered phone and high blood pressure.
But...I may still decide on buying a new one after all as it doesn't seem an easy process buying something off of Aliexpress what with them not accepting Paypal.
Scratch that last sentence as I've just done it.
I'll update the post as and when I receive the screen.
Cheers.
Sorry meant to include the actual screen that I've ordered...

Daft question...this does include the glass and LCD I assume?

Yup. That's the one that includes the whole assembly. Looking forward to seeing which path you take and how it turns out.

Hi all,
Another update but with good and bad news...
Received the new screen/lcd/digitiser thingy yesterday which arrived quickly and well packaged, but...
(That was the good news btw)
Now for the bad news..Visited a couple of different local phone repair shops and both have said that they won't repair it, basically it's them being a bit hesitant not knowing jack about these phones. Also phoned a shop up who after speaking to their techy guy phoned back to say that they couldn't (wouldn't) repair it either.
The other place that I was told about who 'might' fix it is the 'Geek Squad' from Carphone Warehouse. Might be worth popping in there tomorrow morning to see what they say (although I can imagine the answer quite clearly)
Failing that (more than likely) it'll be done by myself. At least I'll be able to transfer all my pictures from the phone to my laptop. If it goes pear shaped I can sell the new screen on eBay etc...then buy a new phone!
Before I tackle it is there any tool that I'll need that I might not have already. Missus has a hair dryer and I've a set of small screwdrivers but I think I may need some more things before I start to totally naff up my mobile.
As usual any help will be much appreciated.

That's shocking. It's not rocket science.
Watch a few videos as shown already to get the general idea. Then open it up, unscrew the screws, unlock and disconnect ribbon cables, heat up any adhesive that needs to be heated. And throw it back together again... Then open your own shop and put those other guys out of business.
A guitar pick or blue pick similar to that tool in the Xiaomi video can help if the Uni doesn't have an easily removable back cover.

Oh well, looks like it'll be done by myself as I've phoned Carphone Warehouse who said basically the exact same thing as the small independent phone shops...they'll happily repair the usual shower of Iphone, Samsung, HTC, etc etc but not particular Chinese brands like mine. Of course he didn't like it when I said that most if not all phones are made in China.
Anyways...I'd better get my not so nimble fingers at the ready, along with no doubt a host of expletives.
Thanks again for your continued inputs.

Thanks very much for your help cookiedough...
I've often wondered how hard it would be to set up a small local shop which specializes in Chinese branded mobiles...from basic selling to firmware upgrades and rooting etc. I've tried to mention it to my tech savvy 18yr old son about it but he's obviously been roped into paying half a million pound a month for a contract phone...oh well!!
Having a closer look at that mobile phone repair tool set it seems like I've got a few of them but could really do with buying a complete new set...probably better than using stuff I find in the shed and the man drawer in the kitchen.
I shall update as and when I either replace it superbly well or failing that smashing it on the floor

Main thing is that little picky thing to slide in and use to start the back away from the frame. I'm anxious to find how this works out.
In regards to the shop, not a bad idea at all. No need to limit to China stuff though. Could do it all
