Do any of you know where to get better batteries for the Star S5, and how to be sure they fit the phone?

The batteries that came with the phone, are pretty unstable now...

It is available with extensive photos from a highly rated seller. Make sure your batteries match (they should). It is a well rated store and the batteries are under $20 with free shipping.

Personally, I would pay the bit extra here in the USA for ePacket (faster and you get decent tracking). Be careful of shipping fees if you go with any other suppliers.

Hopefully it is not the charging function of the phone and it is actually the battery. Either way, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get an external battery charger to check and have on hand. I have ordered "Universal LCD Mobile Cell Phone Battery Wall Travel Charger with USB Port" from the seller "communication shop" on Aliexpress with no problems in product or shipping.

Just remember that whatever you order on Aliexpress will take a long time and if there is a problem with it, there is a good chance you will have to eat part of the cost.
