Navigating with GPS on iNew V3
#11
(2014-04-03, 00:27)enthralled Wrote: Same issues here, with all roms that I've tried, except 1.05, I get a fix on many sats but in actual driving it's very inaccurate making it useless. Even using the 1.08 GPS fix rom. 1.05 was the only rom that gave me accurate navigation when using IGO but unfortunately I had other issues with that rom. I see many posts from people who say their GPS is working great with a certain rom because it gives them a fixed location, but have actually tried navigating with it. And I agree the NFC antenna has nothing to do with GPS signal, with the back cover off the sat signals were no different when using GPS test but of course I wasn't able to read any NFC cards.

No issues here, with stock v1.0.4, while driving. It is pretty accurate, both with CoPilot & Sygic.

Marcel,
where are you from?
(2014-04-02, 15:08)MarcelMG Wrote: Same issues here. With different roms I have had different issues with GPS. But even with 15 sats in the air, a fix on 7 or 8 the position is not always correct. The GPS loses the fix often (every 10-15 minutes at least 1 time), but also every 4-5 minutes shows an incorrect position, usually 10-20 meters left or right, or responds slow when I turned, the GPS shows that I am still on the highway, but I already have taken the exit. So, yes, I see sats, I have a fix, but it is not suitable for navigation. My next phone will have to have a 100% perfect GPS.
I switched a lot of Roms lately and now on LeWa for the V3, and I see stats, but SNR=0. I applied all known tricks, but no signal.

Today I used the Be-On-Road app as suggested by CMD77 and I had a very good navigation. Didnt lose the road 1 time in almost 5h driving (yes, I had a lot of rush hour congestion) Also the GPS had a good fix on 5-9 sats out of 11.
As soon as I started the Google navigation app I was in the pastures/woods next to the roads. So I will test Be-On-Road a while. It is free after all!

I don't know if this works for 6852 chips but I added the

dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:fast

as noted by Elsita (a member here) on xda forum for 6859 phones.

First of all I must say I am happy the phone booted normally...
Secondly I cannot test whether the line made any difference to gps behavior since it was always good in finding me on the map.

I use Waze a lot and this issue with the gps not keeping the position is really annoying. When I navigate in an area I know, it is just annoying to know the phone is wrong. But if I would use it in real world scenarios - like navigating in an area I don't know - it would be problematic...

On another topic: There's a seller on Al.. you know where - that sells two THL w8s batteries for less than 18$.
So I'm gonna try the trick.

Question: Isn't the sticker and plastic top and bottom on the battery extra protection for overheating? IF it explodes, isn't it reasonable to assume that with the sticker and plastics on it would do less damage than without???

Other than be-on-road navigation app I also found that Mapquest seems to hold the position well without recalculating all the time. Waze and Google Maps need high accuracy gps locations and they keep recalculating when the gps starts reporting positions off by few meters.

I can navigate but I think there is an issue that should be solved if possible, is the position update refresh rate, in my case 1hz what is pretty long to have a constant and updated position.
Is like if you go at 100kmh you have a error of 30m+/-, or on a roundabout you miss an exit.
So, it was nice be able to change that number to say 5hz, and as far as I could find out MTK chip is capable of that.

my phone: inew v3 stock 1.0.8

Have any of you all tried navfree usa? I don't have your phone but this is the navigation app I use, my gps is dead on turn by turn with 3 different devices. Lenovo a2109, Htc evo 4g, DK C30.

The dalvik.vm.execution-mode ,,,, tweak to the build.prop file (see my post a few messages above) brings with it a drop of +/-800 points in Antutu, so I deleted that line from the file...
Still waiting for a pictorial or video guide of a working aluminum foil antenna. From what I understood they have to be a very precise length.

I already have that line on build.prop and I guess it came out of the box.
Today tried the copilot and simply it have NO accuracy at all, on the move put me hundreds of meters away in other near by roads.
Google maps dont work well to, never puts me in the exact place, some times dozens of meters away and with me still stand, if I turn on my own without move, just rotate, it jumps from one lication to another.
All this with a GPS Test reported accuracy of 3m.
NDrive is usable but not thrusty in some situations.
I dont know if other users with have this problem but is very strange.

With so many bad reports of GPS fix times I wonder why we dont see people care about accuracy, after all is the most important thing on a GPS.

I tried recalibrating my gps with the procedure which includes deleting mtkgps.dat, restarting and some tweaks on mobile uncle. But instead I stupidly deleted gps.conf from the "etc" root folder.
(the mtkgps.dat file gets rewritten after device restart if you delete it)
So I downloaded (after a little bit of panicking Smiling ) the file in the first post of this thread: [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]
and I get a faster lock now.

First of all, I have no idea about code and only knowledge with any computerized devices based on my own experience.. but I did learn this: gps.conf is not chip specific, it's a set of instructions.
I was surprised to find that my thl t5s (which navigates better than the v3) gets positions of satellites from a Chinese SUPL server (the default that came with the device). But the gps.conf file from Derek Gordon (the link above) works well, I did many restarts and immediately opened GPS test app, and initial lock is always slower after a device restart, but not more than maybe 1.5 minutes. Consequent locks happen in 30 seconds or less.

I went on a stroll with Google Maps and my position was dead-on. Before that, Google maps used to "lose" me and move me around 30 meters to the right or left and then re-lock. ( I wish I could teleport like it shows on the map, that would make me a superhero!!)

I also downloaded "GPS status" (from the same XDA link). its interface looks like GPS test but it seems to run in background every time you open an app that uses the GPS (including gps test itself and mobile uncle tools), and improve fix time.

I also downloaded "GPS Fix" but then I uninstalled it, it's a bit worthless.

Naturally, all of the procedures listed above need root access and a proper root browser that allows you to move, modify and delete files.

I would be happy if someone could paste the text of the gps.conf file that comes with ROM inew 1.0.1 (the new device, 900/2100, build date Feb 2014). Its only a few lines of text and I'd like to know what I lost when I deleted it...
The way to do it is to find it (in "etc" folder), send it to your email, open on PC with notepad, copy and paste here on the thread...)

I hope this all made sense. Now with the thl battery coming in the mail my phone will be perfected!!

Correct me if I´m wrong, you just installed that new gps.conf and now you have dead-on accuracy?
I had that installed too and it didnt work very well.

My main complain is the same problem as you had, on google maps, location jumps all over the place
