I tried recalibrating my gps with the procedure which includes deleting mtkgps.dat, restarting and some tweaks on mobile uncle. But instead I stupidly deleted gps.conf from the "etc" root folder.
(the mtkgps.dat file gets rewritten after device restart if you delete it)
So I downloaded (after a little bit of panicking
) the file in the first post of this thread:

and I get a faster lock now.
First of all, I have no idea about code and only knowledge with any computerized devices based on my own experience.. but I did learn this: gps.conf is not chip specific, it's a set of instructions.
I was surprised to find that my thl t5s (which navigates better than the v3) gets positions of satellites from a Chinese SUPL server (the default that came with the device). But the gps.conf file from Derek Gordon (the link above) works well, I did many restarts and immediately opened GPS test app, and initial lock is always slower after a device restart, but not more than maybe 1.5 minutes. Consequent locks happen in 30 seconds or less.
I went on a stroll with Google Maps and my position was dead-on. Before that, Google maps used to "lose" me and move me around 30 meters to the right or left and then re-lock. ( I wish I could teleport like it shows on the map, that would make me a superhero!!)
I also downloaded "GPS status" (from the same XDA link). its interface looks like GPS test but it seems to run in background every time you open an app that uses the GPS (including gps test itself and mobile uncle tools), and improve fix time.
I also downloaded "GPS Fix" but then I uninstalled it, it's a bit worthless.
Naturally, all of the procedures listed above need root access and a proper root browser that allows you to move, modify and delete files.
I would be happy if someone could paste the text of the gps.conf file that comes with ROM inew 1.0.1 (the new device, 900/2100, build date Feb 2014). Its only a few lines of text and I'd like to know what I lost when I deleted it...
The way to do it is to find it (in "etc" folder), send it to your email, open on PC with notepad, copy and paste here on the thread...)
I hope this all made sense. Now with the thl battery coming in the mail my phone will be perfected!!
