[iNew V8] New stock firmware
#1
Huge props again to iNew who have released 2 firmware updates since iNew V8 came out.

This iNew v8 update is dated 12-SEP-14

[Many fixes. Including fixes for phone, bluetooth, screen, touch response]. Unfortunately not more specific than this.

Needrom download iNew V8 ROM:
[Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

Baidu iNew V8 firmware ROM:
[Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

It's a very simple download. Don't let the Chinese confuse you.

Mobile:

PC:

ADB VCOM Drivers (PDANet recommended to try first)
[Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

SPMDT Flash Tool
[Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

Optional: EBR replacement files for 3.5GB internal (rename original EBR, then paste these into ROM folder)
[Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

Instructions after/while downloading new ROM:

1. Install ADB Drivers. See the tools section here. PDANet is a good one to try first. You only need to install the drivers on PC. Do not need to complete the install of PDANet onto the phone if you don't want.

2. Download, and run SPMDT. This is the tool you will use to install the firmware.

3. Direct SPMDT to the location of the ROM and select the MT6592_Android_Scatter

4. Follow the image here and select the options accordingly

5. After saving options in step #4, you will a screen similar to this. Follow this image. Select the 1st COM port and click "Start All"

6. Remove battery from V8

7. Connect Phone to PC via USB

One of the small bars in SPMDT should turn red, then flash multiple colors as it flashes the ROM.

NOTE: You flash at your own risk. Making a brick is always possible.

It would be nice if iNew would make the update available via their wireless update app that is on the phone.
Reply

Doubt that will happen. Even the major brands have issues with updating OTA. Recently had an experience with a new Sony xperia that had to be updated via PC.

Honestly it's amazing iNew has come out with 2 updates since the phone was released about a month ago.

This firmware completely changes the file structure of the phone. Makes it so there's an internal storage and a phone storage as opposed to 1 big 14GB.

Hello,

excuse me for correction at your Post #1!

The way to flash with this EBR's - it is only right about 50%!

Why ??

You have to change & flash the EBR' 1&2 and a new changed scatter file too!

Example: You walk on a street. You see on your right side House # 20 then 18 then 16 .....

House #20 is fat - House #18 is usrdata and you "stretch" House #18 to #20 - and you can look in #18 & #20 at same time!

I hope you understand my Example.

You have to flash EBR1 & EBR2 and the changed scatter file!

Enclosed you will found some pictures of my post.

You can take a look before and after flash by Terminal Emulator with following command:
cat /proc/dumchar_info

The same for MTK Droid Tool to read the scatter before and after flashM

This way from me to flash work only with "firmware upgrade" and are like factory default!!!

Listen: dumchar is the "bible" for android!

If you send me the scatter - I can make the changes for you!

My pics is for 2.5GB Example.

Greetings

Louis777

.
I downloaded the ROM and changed the EBR1 & 2 and Scatter File to right Size and Value!! Copy all Files in your SPFlash Folder where the ROM resides. Select first the 3.5GB scatter File then the new 2.5GB EBRs - click upgrade and dowload in SPFT for flash.Connect your Phone with USB and put akku in!

Here the right Files for Flash - Old and New! Please response!

.rar   Flash_SPFT_iNew_v8_3.5GB.rar (Size: 2.76 KB / Downloads: 135)

UPDATE

The scatter file error was seemingly due to the version of SPMDT I was trying to use. I tried about four different versions but neglected to download the version in your link (3.1424.00). Scatter opens fine in that version.

So the only remaining questions are...

Is it safe to use SP Flash Tools instead of SPMDT?

Should iNew V8 ROMS be suitable for both 1GB and 2GB RAM versions?

----------------------------------

Hi there,

I've made a similar post on the Needrom link but I'll post here as there are likely more visitors here plus others can benefit from the answer.

My question was...

---------------------------------------------------

Hi there, just a couple of questions... to your knowledge do the firmware updates work on both the 1GB and 2GB RAM verions? Also, is it a recommendation to use SP_MDT or is it essential? e.g. SP Flash Tool will not work? I am more familiar with SP Flash Tools.

--------------------------------------------------

Further to above I downloaded several versions of SP_MDT for a play however whenever I try and load a scatter file I get an error...

Any advice what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

Yes, it's always best to use the newest versions of tools.

People who flashed initially with SP Flash Tool got a blank screen, including myself.

I'd recommend using the EBR and scatter Louis uploaded and the instructions from the first post showing how to set the proper drivers.

Yes, this ROM is fine for 1GB and 2GB versions.

All you do at your own Risk!
Motto reading - reading - working and befor make Backup!

BTW: I hear from blank Screen. Take following:
Flash your lk.bin/UBOOT.IMG from your old Backup. with the new ROM.
There are functioning LCD Driver inside!

Hello at all,

I will think about the right way for you. First I recommended - use only SPFlash Tool v.5.1420.00 !

Use only the extended Scatter 2_5GB with more Entries (see failure in #6 --> wrong Scatter) and the new EBR's 2_5GB from my Post!

Check under Options DA/DL then Upgrade - then Download - then connect your switched off Phone without Battery, immediately Battery in - flash start...

I take Pictures to flash for you and posted it here.

Queston: Wich Version you like to flash! Baidu or the other?
Here I use Baidu

Updated:
Enclosed you will found the Pictures before Flash_Progress!

Here with arrows & normal size and CWM Port-Image.:

[Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

When you Port the Carliv CWM before you Flash the new ROM, you can flash it with the ROM!

Don't flash the port-Image!!

Go to MTK Droid Tool v. 2.53 and make before a NVRAM Backup. Then on the second Tab - cross Boot.img from Phone then Recovery and Boot!

Enclosed my TUT:

[Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

After creating you select the patched Boot.img and the new created CWM-Image in SPFlash Tool instead the Org-Files! The new created Files are in MTK Folder Backup!

Greetings and good luck Rolleyes

Thanks for the post.

@gizbeat mentioned they (and other users) got a blank screen after trying to flash with SP Flash Tool?

You mention 2_5Gb EBR... you mean Flash_SPFT_iNew_v8_3.5GB?

I believe the Needrom and Baidu ROMS are the same... the only difference is the website hosting the files for download. I could be wrong but they are both 20140912_e2702v92_cxq1

Hello at all,

I found the following PDF on Needrom. Read the PDF File. I think it would the best way, to stay on SPFlash Tool!!

First I recommended use only SPFlash Tool v.5.1420.00 or early.

Don´t forget - you have a Art "Fake" MT6591 Hexa-Core - no Full MT6592!

Greetings

take a look on my Post #10 and change in flash your lk.bin for lcd-driver. Take it from your backup!
