WHAT IS ROOTING AND WHY
Rooting your phone will grant you access to the root files of your Android system. While this may pose a real security treat, it also provide a great advancement of controlling your Android system.
However the security thread is reduced because whenever an application tries to access the system files, a Superuser service will alert you, and gives you the choice to grant access for that app.
So be careful with this, as if you're not alert enough apps may unwillingly alter your system and execute exploits which can be dangerous for your privacy and security.
For example:
- Your camera and microphone may be accessed; the images can be uploaded to a server
- A keylogger may be installed so all you type, including usernames and passwords may be uploaded to a server (this may pose a big risk for e.g. paypal transactions which require only a username and password)
- You saved passwords from the browser may be uploaded to a server
So always be aware if you trust the apps which require Superuser access.
Then why root access?
This might allow your phone to
- Overclock or underclock
- Set up another performance scheduler
- Allow apps to optimize your phone (e.g. a battery saver app)
- Run a client/server application
- Share files on your network
- Allow cheating programs to alter your memory, so you can alter your score or amount of credits/coins
- Put back your IMEI files or radio files in case they're gone
Disclaimer: Thus, using this root method is completely at your own risk.
