My device had the first part of your problem, too. Every now and then it showed very weak signal strength, disconnected from the mobile network, ...
My first thought was my carrier. I use german o2 network which is part of Telefonica. As german E-Plus is also part of Telefonica, you are able to use both networks with national roaming since April. My device always warned of high roaming costs, so I installed Xposed framework and GravityBox to disable this warning for national roaming.
I installed a different baseband version from Cubot S208 (MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V35.P19) and I think that the mobile network connection is more stable.
There's only one point: SIM cards are switched - SIM in slot1 is shown as SIM2 and vice versa.
