Just stumbled on a link from a link from a bricked i6000 thread here to learn about the Goophone S4 Mega. Do you guys know anything about this phone or this company? It looks like it will work in the USA with T-Mobile (minus some 3G capabilities).
These guys compare it to the Samsung Mega and the Samsung S4:
http://www.gizmochina.com/2013/07/07/goo...-mega-6-3/
And right now, this site (linked from last link) has it for $300 pre-order!
http://www.android-inside.com/goophone-s...phone.html
Temptation running high.
Know anything about the brand?
Know anything about the phone?
Know anything about the seller?
....or should I stick with the safe, cheap bet of a Star S7589?

me nuffing.
if you wanna big phone, i suggest you get i6000.
We have a nice little community of the owners here.
We know how to root, how to put custom recovery, which ROM is the best etc.
I am getting my i6000 for $330 from dx.com.
But other than that, stick w/S7589.
You can have mine for $170 shipped
nothing wrong w/my S7589.
just going to have i6000 as my prime and B6000 as my second.
I don't need more than that. each one will support 2 SIMs, so I can have 3 networks - T-mo+Lycamobile, another T-mo+SIMs for european networks when I travel to Europe.

It's hard to recommend a China Phone in the $300 range. I'm not saying it's silly, but it really needs to have something above and beyond that makes it worth it to you.
Goophone has a fairly decent name and has been around for a little while.

a few things:
- 6.45 inch is fun when you're gaming, but in everyday activities it's overkill and a major nuisance; that being said, finding 6 inch stuff with FHD screens is kinda rare and does make FHD come to it's right well, unlike even on 5 inch phones where some of its potential is still wasted.
- the comparison with the samsung tablet is not very fair when taken at face value; it's dual core processor has a cortex A15 architecture which is nearly twice as efficient as cortex A7; DMIPS wise it's 3.5 vs. 1.9... And that exynos thing has a hyper-modern GPU combined with it. The SoC is used in the 2500 x 1600 Google Nexus 10 tablet. on 720p it will have extremely high performance (overkill, really).
- 3000 MAh battery could turn out to be outright small for a phablet of that size; FHD consumes a lot of power
- from my own experience with a Tianhe H920+, the MTK T processor isn't 100% fast on FHD; sharp pictures in Gallery will first render in 720p and then in 1080 about a second later; this produces a bit of an annoying visual artifact; don't expect perfect speed; 3D games as far as I'm aware don't have this "problem"
- if you settle for a 5 inch screen, which has its own advantages, you can find phones with these specs for around $270 (after use of coupon codes, etc), and you wouldn't have to wait for it; you'd also have more options for lower RAM and ROM at an even lower price (down to +/- $210) if it's your preference

there's a special deal on this website for a very similar phone that you can get right now: http://www.pandawill.com/zopo-zp990-smar...78381.html
Coupon code "ZP990" - $20 off, free flip case, free battery; $56 in combined savings, and the phone is cheaper to begin with. only downsides: 6 inch and 1GB RAM.

don't really see any advantages going from 5.8" screen to 6" screen.

Wow. Thanks to all for all the very helpful responses.
I guess I got carried away in the "just because it's newer and bigger must mean it's the BEST" hype.
Maine, as always, you just make me want to buy stuff. SO tempting on that S7589. Is yours the white one? It might get kinda weird to have the exact same phone as the girly. At that price it's almost impossible to decline, though.
Lots more questions:
In regards to phablets, is there a "sweet spot" regarding size? Usable as a tablet, but not a pain in the nards to carry around?
Does 1GB of RAM cut it for most everyday phone use?
Is the biggest jump between the B6000 and i6000 the RAM?
Gizbeat: what's your ideal price range for a China phone?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm still wearing my overstimulated-newbie glasses in this arena.

It is white.
Like I said it is flawless.
It is being ebayed already, but if you decide you are interested, I can go even lower, just to avoid ebay/paypal fees.
I have 12 years selling experience on ebay, you are quite safe with me.
Does 1GB of RAM cut it for most everyday phone use? I think so, however, I went with the higher version for my i6000, because dx told me they had it in stock.
The biggest jump between B6000 and i6000 is the screen size, 5.7" to 6.45", and screen res, full HD 1920x1080 vs 1280x720 on S7589/B6000. RAM is basically irrelevant. You can get one with 1GB RAM and 16GB ROM or one w/2GB RAM and 32GB ROM. The price difference is about $60.

anything over 4.5" will be somewhat cumbersome (can't use in one hand, etc) and may get you funny looks from people. 5" to +/- 6" can be worth it to properly make use of an FHD screen, though. I'd really hesitate to buy anything over 6". It would be like walking around with a tablet in your pocket all the time.
so if you're into phablets... 6" inch might be a sweet spot. see if the pandawill deal suits your needs.

yes, easily.
