Hello.
Could someone please tell me in idiot's language how to root the Cubot P7.I've tried all the common root tools - SRSRoot, Framaroot, Superoneclick, VRoot, IRoot, RootGenius... I could go on!!
I've tried reading through the rooting through CWM but I don't find it very comprehensive (sorry author!!) and I think it may well be out of date!
I had no problem doing it on my 2 Samsungs but this is just doing my head in!!!
Anyway, specs for the P7 :
Android 4.4.2
MTK 6582M
All I want to do is get rid of the really annoying startup and shutdown music and a few pre-installed apps.
Many thanks
blackbox

Hi, blackbox. Welcome to the forum.
Is this the method you are referring to? [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]
Which part is tripping you up?
You do the read back, and save it as some ROM_0 file, then use MTK Droid Tools to process the ROM. You now have a complete backup.
Under Recovery and Boot, tick "To choose the boot.img file". You point to the boot.img file you produced during processing of the ROM. Then click on Recovery and Boot.
It will ask if you want to create CWM, say yes. DO NOT agree to load the patched boot file. It will offer to load the CWM, say yes. You can agree to boot into recovery just to check it loaded okay.
Next you download this: [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register] unrar it and store the zip file you find there in the root directory of your external sd.
Boot into recovery and select to install from SD. Point to the zip file.

Hi
The whole tutorial is confusing. It goes to a link and then another link and then I have to look up about creating a boot image and then come back to the next step in the tutorial.........
What I'm looking for is a straightforward step-by-step guide of EVERYTHING I need to do in order.

The only link out I see is creating the scatter map at the beginning. I'm not sure how that can be confusing. Or are you talking about the download links? Those are just download links man. download droid tools, sp flash tool, and the vcom drivers.
Extract everything and install: droid tools, sp flash tool, and drivers.
Do the scatter map. Then do the tutorial.
You create the boot image along the way. There is nothing you need to look up. When you ask droid tools to process the ROM read back, you will get a boot image automatically.
If the method in the spoiler works, you don't need to go through the alternatives. Are those the ones you are referring to?
The nvram backup is done after you've been rooted.

OK. I'll give it a go. Will this process actually root the phone, or is there something else I have to do before or afterwards?
Thanks for your help and patience .

Once you've installed CWM, download this: [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]
Unrar it, you will find a SuperSU zipped file inside. Store the zip file in the root directory of your external sd.
Boot into recovery and select to install from SD. Point to the zip file.

So I've got as far as opening the SP Tool but when I try to load the Scatter File, it says "Scatter File Fail".
Now what?

What is your scatter map's file name?
What version of sp flash tool are you using?

It's a text file, yes?
Try renaming it to MT6582_Android_scatter.txt
