Lenovo s850 root (mtk6582/4.4.2)

ahh sorry I am spollt with both

let me explain that your ROM allocates a fair chunk to system
what is left over is what i call the internal storage.

Most people call it internal storage as the sdcard can be removed but yours can't.

good luck

PS I will call it a nite see you in about 9 hours

But I cant install anything from cwm as it will not mount sd so I cant flash it.

Good night and thanks for your help your a legend. I have a feeling all is lost though.

Hi sorry. Your partitions are of the wrong formats. Yup youre right, unless you fix that you won't be able to install anything. Your NVRAM is unformatted as well, so you will likely not be able to reinstate your imeis just yet.

That's why I suggested to find a fix for that first. Hopefully someone has some ideas about that. I'll try to keep looking in on it.

Athos writes
Quote:Your partitions are of the wrong formats
then try going into CWM, and use the format option as found here
CWM main menu
mounts and storage
format /systemname .....choose what ever Athos says is wrongly formatted
############################

siewarner = OP
Quote:If i get cwm to read and flash I could install the latest official rom on needrom?

If OP can use PC to copy needrom ROM onto his internal storage as a zip file
CWM can install zips from internal storage
---to get there is misleading

install zip from sdcard
choose zip from internal sdcard

Please report errors for this .....if you have tried this......yes I know you said in the past that recovery could not mount sdcard,
but I thought you might have been trying to do a simple backup....which assumes sdcard and we did not specifically talk about zip files

2) If OP says he can not copy zip to internal storage, we could consider using a Linux live cd to mount the storage....but I will wait to see results to first suggestion

3) I hope he did not flash the stock recovery on?
Is he seeing CWM when in recovery mode?

4) Once we know he can install zips.....he can root using my earlier link to the chainfire zip file

OK, thanks for the instructions.
I saw the scatter file of the Russian forum ROM. That is the one that dictated the partition formats as none and yaffs. Sorry, I thought it could have just been a flashing error.
Aus9, is there a danger that formatting the none types will mess things up more?

2. Yup this is where he got stuck in the root from cwm he was attempting at the beginning

4. The one in the forum DL I provided is v2.02.. Does he have to use v1.94 specifically for the cwm you customized?

guys

I have just reviewed a number of pages and come to some rather strange conclusions for your consideration.

Let me review some of the points first ok?
siewarner = OP and Athos were working on building a CWM from the tutorials.
OP appears to have claimed new CWM was installed post 11.
OP says can get into fastboot
post 18 and related posts Athos and OP talk about how bad the scatterfile is,
namely showing non-ext4 and none as parameters

#######################
Because I don't use windows I had ignored all posts on scatterfile in the recent past leaving that to Athos. I now think that was a mistake

Let me show why. Here is the Official scatter file for my phone which also happens to be mt6582

[Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

Let me put some of the key sticking points into a quote box so we can focus our minds on it.

Quote: NOT OP scatterfile but aus9's system.img
partition_index: SYS16
partition_name: ANDROID
file_name: system.img
is_download: true
type: YAFFS_IMG
linear_start_addr: 0x4980000
physical_start_addr: 0x3D80000
partition_size: 0x2BC00000
region: EMMC_USER
storage: HW_STORAGE_EMMC
boundary_check: true
is_reserved: false
operation_type: UPDATE
reserve: 0x00

Quote:OP system.img
#####################
partition_index: SYS17
partition_name: ANDROID
file_name: system.img
is_download: true
type: YAFFS_IMG
linear_start_addr: 0x1F180000
physical_start_addr: 0x1DD80000
partition_size: 0x5DC00000
region: EMMC_USER
storage: HW_STORAGE_EMMC
boundary_check: true
is_reserved: false
operation_type: UPDATE
reserve: 0x00

##########################

so if you agree.....we need to compare the actual images inside the scatter file and not get mislead by Yaffs

####################
To say that more crudely, I take back my suggestion to format using CWM
as there may not be anything wrong with his current setup.

the fact that he can get into /proc/mounts and showed me his information by screenshots.......deduction....phone boots OK

Secondly his mounts info shows that the key system folders are already ext4 which we all agree ....is what they should be.

######################

so my mind is now focussed on whether the OP has a recent version of CWM installed that I alluded to earlier.

If I can get confirmation of the CWM version number he sees at first starting CWM......if its old......then the tutorial failed or uses an old CWM

If OP confirms this is the file he linked to .....which I was discussing earlier about I thought it was a Russion mod because I spotted it had the wrong ids as confirmed by OP with his usbdeview doc.....then

Please confirm it......agree to try at own risk and I will build a recent
CWM using his russian kernel but with my CWM stuff

leaping ahead we then need to discuss how to flash it

Options in easy order are:
OP says mobileuncle installed so we try that first....within Android
-----OP must find some way of getting new CWM onto phone normally into internal storage
Second option is to use Windows and fastboot
third option windows flashtool....a correct scatter file and only tick the recovery box

If I have made a mistake in size of image....I risk soft bricking OP phone
If I have made a mistake in other stuff same deal

So I will repeat......if OP agrees for me to go ahead....because his version is old.....I will need his dumchar info that I alluded to earlier.

It would be safer that he get a copy of it as a text file and uploads it to a file sharing site so I make no mistakes in using eyesight versus a screenshot.

only if he agrees then please do this
Code:
cat /proc/dumchar_info > /sdcard/dumchar.txt
I am rooted so not sure if he can do that?
then upload the text file and link to it in his reply

sorry for taking a long time to post

cheers and good luck

forgot to add, if he can't get his dumchar stuff as not rooted
I will use his scatterfile info and after converting hex = 0xC00000 to decimal I get
12582912 bytes which is massive compared to mine.

hmm that looks very large indeed

Sorry for late reply as we are on different time zones. I will read it fully in a moment.

My phone currently has no cwm as I let the phone do an ota update which failed to install with cwm but once on stock recovery it flashed fine. But maybe the rom I have installed is the issue and it should have been a different rom for china market as one I have now is a rest of world rom.

ok CWM version is too old for my liking

one more favour can you upload your current stock recovery image pls
---your dumchar confirms your scatterfile hex value as I already posted

so a lot of things we are getting right.....right up to the point where you trust me on my CWM mod

To give you some idea of what my evil plan is.
give you more recent CWM
then you can flash a root.zip
then you "should" be able to fix IMEI using mobileuncle

it all falls in a heap if I have failed to understand all parts of CWM and yes I don't claim to know it all.

sorry I won't download russian rom as its too large 1.2 G

cheers
