my mobile is also similar to you.
display is 540 x 960.
it shows RAM 2048MB.

but they displayed as FULL hd. but they have cheated all customers.

still, back camera is not working.
very worst phone i have ever seen.

Let me tell you all some new discovered things,

The mobile is fake for sure, I don't know how, but developers have hacked Antutu and CPU-Z to show different results, Try with other App as "Phone Specs" or Mobile Uncle on the market. This mobile is MTK6582 and the screen 960x540. I think battery is also fake.

The initial root can be done with Vroot without any problem.

There are on needrom two different ROMs for this. Look there for "S960S". The first one, not the one with "YHC", will run with original recovery, but I'm afraid that will brake the back camera. There are other ROMs for Lenovo S960 but it's not the same mobile.

After I've updated with this ROM, I've lost camera and root capabilities, it was not possible to root again with vroot.

I didn't have any idea how to use MTK Droid Tools, but finally I succeded in rooting again by a combination of MTK Droid, asking for temporal root, maintaining it opened and using Vroot again. Once rooted again, I did a MTK Droid Backup and prepare the files for MTK Tools, to load again just in case. To run MTK Droid, take care to disable Antivirus, if you are running Windows 8.

As I had a Backuo now is possible to format the whole mobile using MTK Tools and download the ROM again, unfortunately this not fixed camera failure, but worked as backup at least.

Once you have root privileges, other useful thing that is possible to do using MTK Droid Tools is to make and flash a CWM recovery, It's really easy; In the Backup and recovery section, select CWM "for this mobile" and it will make and flash a custom recovery.

Once Again, I successfully did a Backup in both MTK Droid and by CWM Backup.

As camera was still not working I decided to flash the second ROM in needron, the one with "YHC" version. I did it using CWM, but first of all you have to edit the "updater-script" file, located on the ZIP file "S960S-17.zip\META-INF\com\google\android, by deleting the first line until you see "show progress..."
After this process IMEI numbers are lost, but those are written in a label on the back of the mobile, behind the battery. Once more, using MTK Droid Tools you can easily write IMEIs again.


After this the Camera works again and everything seems to be running perfect after 10 days. There are some other minor things working better than on the factory ROM (as number id in S-View).

I have claimed to the seller and he offers to me a refund by sending back the mobile. As I need the mobile to work I can't proceed and loose money in shipment. I've purchased it in Aliexpress, and this fake mobile is being sold in more than 40 seller there, I'd like to find a way to claim to Aliexpress but it's not easy to do it after leaving Feedback.
