If you back port a kernel it can't brick anything, worst case. phone wont boot, if phone doesn't boot, reboot into recovery mode and flash regular kernel.
Usually to get into recovery, hold volume up or down plus power, depends on phone.

vampirefo look at the home key on both phones, the dooogee has the same "evil eye" that the inew v3 came out with, im not saying its bad if they copied the inew v3 ( its quite good seeing as the success of the inew was partly because of its design vses the doogee2014, which were both released the same time and aimed at the same market)
Gizbeat has done an article on the DOOGEE DG550
http://www.gizbeat.com/3781/doogee-to-copy-inew-v3/
in which he too agree's that it has copied the inewv3's design,
BUT there is nothing wrong with it, however you have to be kidding yourself if you dont say it hasnt be at the very least "STRONGLY influenced" . the backs both show very minor differences, but by looking at both of them from the front, you could not tell the difference AT ALL aside from screen sizes. also you may say all phones look the same, but if you took two photos of the tops and sides of the two phones, they would be inseperable other than the screen size.
i am not saying its a bad thing at all, i think the inew v3 design is very very nice, but the inew was the first phone to come up with that design, ESPECIALLY THE HOME KEY WHICH IS THE "EVIL EYE" and now DOOGEE (WHICH was COMPETING with the inewv3 with its own DOOGEE2014 phone, but did not catch hold of the markets because many people bought the inew v3.)

You know, even though the bulk of this thread is kinda off topic it's really nice to see so many people so into these kinds of phones. Props to everyone!
I went from a 2GB phone to a 1GB phone and back to 2GB. The RAM difference was noticeable but not a showstopper. The biggest difference I noticed was a lag in launching SwiftKey in SMS and a lag in the first few words I typed. It was annoying, but mostly because I'm hypercommunicative with messaging. If that isn't an issue for your usage, then it'd obviously take a lower priority.
For strictly selfish reasons, I would *like* for everyone to have the same phone I have. More momentum means more support. But I'll never recommend a device based on that criteria.
If I could pay 20 bucks to upgrade my phone to kitkat, I would in a heartbeat. I understand that perk. If I could be paid 20 bucks to get an upgrade to kitkat, but have to sacrifice my RAM and screen size... I would be pretty hesitant. I strongly value those things.
How do you plan on using your phone? Does waiting an extra half a second between tab switching and such bother you that much? Do you like big screens or dislike them? How bad do you currently need a phone?

vampirefo if your not in a rush to get a new phone though i would recomend maybe waiting till the inew v5 specs are released, the v5c have been released an the phone looks great, I'd imagine the v5 would be octacore and competing with the dg550, maybe even the 2gb ram, not sure but inew is a good company is all i can say, they have released alot of roms and dont seem to be a company which just releases and then stops all contact, idk about doogee they maybe great too,

I wouldn't trade my DK C30 for a inew, honestly with all the problems reported with that phone line, I am surprised anyone even recommends it, GPS is bad, phone falls apart, battery doesn't charge, the list goes on and on, on every forum I have been on including this forum, I have ruled out ever buying a inew phone.

hmm i guess your right, the internet does make it out to be terrible ,
but in my personal and honest opinion
my phone is really really good value for money,
1) looks great
2) great camera
3) really really good screen, comparable to my dads note 3, (obviously not on par, but for a 720p screen) dads phone is real samsung btw
4) havnt really had any problems with the GPS exept in the Lewa ROM, but then i dont use it very much and have only ever "tested" GPS
CONS
1) battery charging defect really annoys me if we only get 88% of potential, but this is still enough for me, so other than the fact that we arnt getting the maximum im ok with it
3) REALLY ANNOYED about the fact that the LCD is coming off..... really pisses me off tbh, i bought 2 together, only one has the LCD coming off atm, BUT its not only my phone, seems as though alot of people have the same problems with the LCD glue coming off. I guess i can understand where you are coming from when you blame inew, espesciialy with this point
a phone company should be using products which wont fail after a month, and the LCD glue is terrible, it may have been only one factory of one batch, (which i kinda doubt seeing as only 1 of the phones i ordered have this problem, expecting the second to have it one day)..
but yeah i agree with you now when you say it, the inew has alotta problems
but i havnt purchased from any other "branded" chinese phone before, only a fake iphone and galaxy, which were both fine, but non-branded. i spent waay too much on the galaxy note 3 fake tho, so i sold that asap to make what money i could, the goophone was a nice phone but not for me as i disliked even the customised ios look.
if you could let me know any "good" value for money brands so i can look into those before my next purchase itd be great thanks

You should really try one of THL phones. Really nice phones. The only problem i saw people complaining about was really stupid camera connector defect. It was not tight enough so I had to open the phone and put something between the camera connector and back case. Really easy fix, but as far as I know this was only on W100 and W200 models. So read reviews about W200s. It actually cheap and is really nice phone (I have actually ordered it but got scammed by eBay seller. But in the end I got my money back ). Also, if you are willing to pay more for a good quality phone, Xiaomi or ZOPO might also suit you ;)

@usblaidas - I would like to hear this story of how they tried to scam you and how you took care of it. Could help people in the future. Possibly in a new thread though, if you have the time.

There was nothing special about that. I won a phone in ebay auction, seller sent me micro sd adapter and the I just opened a case about that and ebay returned my money. That's the story

There has been so much talk about the Doogee DG550 I might have to get one to review it. Once it becomes widely available...
