Overheating during GPS usage is normal.
I get in my iNew warning messages (for high temperature) after sometime of using GPS on the car and charging it at the same time.
Also all the GPS devices I am using the last 6-7 years, all of them get very hot.

It is not a theory, it is true. I am not making them from my mind. All these are certain, are numbers and ratings of the manufacture.
The only "variable" is the charging limit of the inew. But we all now the charging voltage does not exceed the 4,2volts (there are few exceptions which their phone can charge their battery up to 4,35v)
You can ask all the people who did the mod with the THL battery. All of them they will tell you that the increment of the battery's "juice" are about 20% which it doesn't make sense according the 'numbers".
My explanation above is for making sense this big difference.
Also keep on mind that all of these could be verify, with batteries with the same charge cycles.

In regards to GPS overheating, I find that to be common as well.
Partly due to charging.
Partly due to GPS/Processor use.
Partly due to solar loading.
I've found that when I run my A/C through the defroster vent by the windshield, it helps considerably since it circulates the air behind the phone.
