Just on a side note about installing drivers etc...

Is there a problem with doing all the rooting and installing drivers/gapps etc using a laptop with Windows Vista?

I'm only asking as I was having problems doing it to my IUNI U2 but eventually sorted it all out with the help of my Son using his laptop which is Windows 7!

Might be time to upgrade me thinks!

This shouldn't make too much difference. If anything, Windows 7 is easier than Win 8 because for some drivers need to turn off driver signing on Win 8. Not sure about Vista, but should be similar to 7.

But this is one of the things on the "Fix SP Flash tool problem thread" that suggests trying a different PC (I think this is mostly suggested because of driver issues though. Just my layman's guess).

Thanks very much for the reply MM,

That's what I thought,as it was all going swimmingly well right up to the point when it was time to plug my phone into my laptop...had trouble finding the drivers even though they were downloaded the exact same way/place that we ended up trying with the other laptop.

My only explanations were either dodgy usb inputs on my lappy(ruled out as other things worked) or that Windows Vista just wasn't compatible with the sort of drivers that I required for the IUNI U2.

Anyway,it's working fine...so far.

Yes, most of the drivers should be fine for XP, Vista, 7 and 8 too, but with 8/8.1 need to disable driver signature enforcement when installing the preloader drivers (as already mentioned by @modestmouse ). Sometimes the wrong ones load too and cause a conflict. Especially if someone tries to install too many.

There are 2 kinds of drivers. 1 kind for accessing your phone through USB debugging (phone on) and the other for flashing the phone via PC, those are the preloader drivers (phone off) and are the ones that most people have a problem with.
