Mobileuncle MTK Tools expert advice needed - Bluesmanuk - 2014-08-09 I bought a Jiake N900W MTK6582 phone like the one in the link. [Snip] Whilst it was in transit from China, I learned that ebay had banned the sale of the Star N9500 model because it came with chinese malware that could not be uninstalled. When it arrived I noted that there were quite a few Chinese apps installed and after uninstalling all those that I could easily do, there were some left, which were reported by a malware detection app to be potentially dangerous. So after a little searching, I found a JB 4.2.2 Custom ROM here. All works well enough except for one rather major issue. When making or receiving a call, whilst the other party can hear me fine, the volume coming from the inbuilt speaker next to my ear was so faint that even with complete silence it was difficult to hear them. If I plug in headphones or put them on loudspeaker, I can hear them just fine. I had used Mobileuncle tools for a few of the utilities that it possessed but after a lot of searching, I came across users of other chinese made phones with volume issues of all kinds. On a few of the threads there were instructions on using mobileuncle tools to go into engineer mode and alter the variety of audio settings for any/all of the input/outputs. Trying out what others had tried with various settings for their particular brand of phone, I was able to increase the volume but not to any extent that anybody would find even close to satisfactorily. So I have a few questions to confirm that I am in the correct area for modifications. Under the audio section there are categories for Normal Mode, Headset mode etc. I am working under normal mode, where there are sub categories named: Sip, Mic, Sph, Sph2, Sid and Media. Mic would seem obvious as microphone. Media would seem to be for playback of music etc. I'm not sure what Sip, Sph and Sid are though. From what I have read, my understanding is that Sph is the area that is likely to control the internal earpiece/phone. Am I correct in that assumption? Are there any others areas that I should also be making adjustments? RE: Mobileuncle MTK Tools expert advice needed - aus9 - 2014-08-09 I will give you a quick reply and others can improve it later? MTK engineering mode with a rooted device audio -> nomal as you are making a normal call not a headset call options for me are SIP......a kind of VOIP call not using your SIM card Mic you know Sph ....speaker at your Head Sph2...should be Sb.....speaker at the back of the phone (for me) Sid....no idea Media....for media playback as they can hear you just adjust the sph pulldown and select level 6 set to 112 and test a call.....max is 160 good luck RE: Mobileuncle MTK Tools expert advice needed - Bluesmanuk - 2014-08-09 Many thanks again aus9. I tried that but it was ever quieter. I'm glad that I was generally in the right area with sph. I'm guessing that my logic will no doubt have some flaw in it but I then set all 6 levels to 160 and it was slightly better but still nowhere near where it should be. RE: Mobileuncle MTK Tools expert advice needed - aus9 - 2014-08-10 Glad its a small improvement try system settings audio profile uncheck the box for sound enhancement, if you have it and full reboot of phone 2) Maybe you can find one with a different kernel and therefore different shared objects. Personally I don't think you are doing anything wrong, I think it may be the ROM mod RE: Mobileuncle MTK Tools expert advice needed - mirandam - 2014-08-10 (2014-08-09, 22:20)aus9 Wrote: ... I don't know for sure, but I think SPH2 would be the hand-free speaker level which I think affects the back speaker. One level that is missing is the headphone speaker level, maybe SID ?????? EDIT: This site [another forum] might be of help even though it's in italian. It says this: Sip (handsfree calling) set Max. Vol 160 Level 0 set to 120 and go up from 12 to 12 for each Level - then 120, 132, 144, 156, 168, 180, 192 Sph (volume listening in conversation) set Max. Vol 160 Level 0 set to 100, and then for the other Level at 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160 SPH2 as above (same values of Sph) RE: Mobileuncle MTK Tools expert advice needed - Bluesmanuk - 2014-08-11 Thanks guys. I'm trying all combinations suggested. I did have an idea though. I downloaded what is purported to be the stock ROM from geekbuying and flashed that in the hope that if I used the phone as it would have come from the factory, that should work perfectly and then I can note down and copy all the appropriate settings. Sadly, the stock ROM sound is also very poor. So it may well be that this is just not a very good phone or perhaps there may be a hardware fault with the internal speaker. RE: Mobileuncle MTK Tools expert advice needed - aus9 - 2014-08-11 ok try audio tests by code dialling? Not supported by all makers and try at own risk edit changed app as first one was ad mad RE: Mobileuncle MTK Tools expert advice needed - Bluesmanuk - 2014-08-11 Thanks. I'll take a look. INCREASE THE AUDIO WITH MOBILEUNCLE TOOLS It seems to me that a little clarity on the issue is due. It's so difficult to achieve the appropriate audio settings; sailing on the net I've found a lot of different advices about audio settings. Anyway, MAYBE I've found the right settings (they work well on my smartphone). FIRST OF ALL Clarify the terms and their meaning: Sip - Phone Calls, Sph – Speaker volume levels during a telephone conversation, Mic – microphone sensitivity levels (note that it is not microphone volume), Ring – ringer volume, Media – volume while playing music, movies, games, FMR – FM radio volume, Matv – TVB SECOND The Max Volume is 160 , but a lot of people advise against to set the max volume to 160 because it could damage your phone. Set the max volume to 150 is more than enough. THE AUDIO SETTINGS: Open Mobile Uncle Tools and open engineering mode. Under engineering mode, go to 'Hardware Testing' and go to ‘Audio’. Go to ‘Normal Mode’ (front speaker) Under ‘Type’ select 'Sip'. Under ‘Level’ enter these values (Value is 0~255) Level 0 < Value 160 Max vol 150 (press SET and OK) Level 1 < Value 176 Max vol 150 (press SET and OK) Level 2 < Value 192 Max vol 150 (press SET and OK) Level 3 < Value 208 Max vol 150 (press SET and OK) Level 4 < Value 224 Max vol 150 (press SET and OK) Level 5 < Value 240 Max vol 150 (press SET and OK) Level 6 < Value 255 Max vol 150 (press SET and OK) Apply the same settings (above) to 'Sip' on ‘Headset Mode’ and 'Sip' on ‘Loudspeaker Mode’ 'Loudspeaker Mode' is the back speaker. Next, in ‘Normal Mode’ under ‘Type’ select ‘Mic’. Under ‘Level’ select ‘Level 0'. Under ‘Value is 0~255' enter 255. For all levels, from level 0-6 set the value as 255 (there are 14 levels on my phone and I've set all levels to 255). This will ensure that your voice is audible to other person even when you turn down the speaker volume. Apply the same settings to ‘Headset Mode’ -> Mic and ‘Loudspeaker Mode’ -> Mic. Next, in ‘Normal Mode’ under ‘Type’ select ‘Sph’. Under ‘Level’ select ‘Level 0'. Enter these values under ‘Value is 0~160' for various levels. Level 0 -> 90 Level 1 -> 100 Level 2 -> 110 Level 3 -> 120 Level 4 -> 130 Level 5 -> 140 Level 6 -> 150 Apply the same settings (above) to 'Sph2' Apply the same settings (above) to ‘Headset Mode’ -> Sph, Sph2 and ‘Loudspeaker Mode’ -> Sph, Sph2 Next, in ‘Normal Mode’ under ‘Type’ select ‘Media’. Enter these values under ‘Value is 0~255' for various levels. Level 0 -> 32 Level 1 -> 48 Level 2 -> 64 Level 3 -> 80 Level 4 -> 96 Level 5 -> 112 Level 6 -> 128 Level 7 -> 144 Level 8 -> 160 Level 9 -> 176 Level 10 -> 192 Level 11 -> 208 Level 12 -> 224 Level 13 -> 240 Level 14 -> 255 Apply the same settings (above) to 'Headset Mode’ -> FMR, Media and Matv Apply the same settings (above) to ‘Loudspeaker Mode’ -> FMR, Media and Matv VERY IMPORTANT: remember to restart the phone after to apply all the settings. I hope that my suggested audio settings and solutions help you.
