Ubuntu Phone - securetech - 2014-08-06

I have a few phones (all exactly the same except color) that have the MTK6582, Mali 400 MP. (given by 'antutu' benchmark app). Although I have read in other threads on this site that no linux distro supports mtk devices I want more info or a fix to implement this. Ubuntu phone has official support for nexus tablets but I would like to install for testing on my mtk6582. Alas, here is my question.

Where are chinaphonearena developers on this project? Bring OS Ubuntu Phone to MTK devices!!!

Not sure about the 'poll' function on myBB ...

(Assuming one day Ubuntu Phone will function)
Would you use your (china)/phone as your portable 'pc' ?
Would you prefer to buy a (china)/phone that sold with a grub type option for Android and Ubuntu ?

RE: Ubuntu Phone - linr76 - 2014-08-06

choice of OS is always nice, but unfortunately Ubuntu for phones is nowhere near finished yet and basically runs on 0 phones right now.
so for support on Mediatek chipsets is a long way to go, if it would ever come.
first phones to receive working system will probably be nexus'es, noone has ever heard again from BQ or Meizu if they really are going to bring Ubuntu as choice.

Hi

grub is for hard drive MBR where you have 0,0 sector

uboot and a few other bootloaders know how to handle flash devices.

2) Maybe you can ask the Mediatek developers to release the kernel source?

3) Maybe an image helps?

4) see page 9 of PDF of 40 pages
