iocean X7 HD boot 2 recovery discussion - aus9 - 2014-07-02

Hi

So far I know of only 3 methods of getting into recovery mode for my device.
Cable out and button pushing not so successful. vol + and power is a fail for me.

Method 1
Install quickboot from playstore.....run it ....it has an option to get into recovery
sweet!

Method 2
Install Mobileuncle app from Playstore
which has an option to go into recovery mode.

Method 3

Power up your PC and have data cable connected between both.
Note---you do not need to have the adb server running.

On phone....from full shutdown
hold the volume up and the power button in
---until you see your recovery.

This only takes seconds to appear.

cheers

Not being able to boot from power off into recovery is a common issue with some ROMs. It is due to the the boot sequence files (lk.bin / boot.img) in combination with the ROM.

One thing you can try is flashing both custom boot.img and custom CWM created by MTK Droid Tools. This may fix the issue, but can not confirm.

sorry I only have a Linux PC so can not (or will not) use MTK Droid Tools

2) I won't link but there are a number of posters at a rom download site that share my dilemma.

Unfortunately, I being impatient with some types of ROMs have tested and dismissed because either they have incorrect camera and/or
have some other issue.

But I don't want this to be seen as a rant, as I lack the skills to make my own ROM.

Thanks for your time.

First, sorry for posting here.

Same issue. But my question is: In order to try this. Is it possible to flash now patched_boot.img without any risk, when custom recovery.img was flashed a few weeks ago? Or should I do the whole process again?

Thanks

no I wouldn't try it just yet

download an app called quickboot from playstore
use it to get into bootloader mode and from there to fastboot

if your device goes into fastboot mode......pull battery out and reboot device normally

2) Now that you know you can use fastboot.....do not flash a patched boot image
instead use various tools to put a patched boot image onto your PC
then connect data cable and then go into fastboot.

This way.....if you incorrectly patched ......the boot will fail
If it works you can then consider over writing your current boot image

trouble is.....I have not had time to try it.

good luck

Hi,
I can get into bootloader with buttons combo (do you remember? Is the U59GT tablet wich we were trying to find a way to get into recovery directly)

My battery can not be pulled out. And I did not have tested
fastboot mode yet since I am not familiar with it.

My custom boot.img is the one that was generated by MTKDroid tools at the same time with recovery.img.

RE: iocean X7 HD boot 2 recovery discussion - aus9 - 2014-07-29

sorry anything generated by MTK or any other flashtool is beyond me as I don't use any Windows.

Can I suggest you start a new thread in the General Hack forum and announce what you plan to do. Hopefully someone with Windows will be able to reply.

This is fine. I would recommend having a backup of boot.img prior to flashing. You can flash the patched boot with SP Flash Tool or via MTK Droid Tool if you have root shell permissions.
