ThL Power Button - LRAYT - 2013-12-31

I have a thl w8+ and have had it for several months now and it has developed a problem with the power button. Try to turn the phone on and the screen goes blank, must hold the power button down for 10 to 20 seconds and it reboots. This happens over half the time trying to use the phone.

Understand this is quite common but I find it VERY ANNOYING!!!!!!

Is there an easy fix for this?? OR, must I root the phone and reinstall new firmware??? My big problem is I am not a computer geek....I am 68 years old and If i had detailed instructions I could more than likely do it myself. I currently live in the Philippines, have checked with several CP repair shops and they will not touch it. Obviously afraid of bricking the device.

Is there a good, simple easy to follow tutorial on how root and reinstall firmware that's made an for an old man.....

thanx,

LRAYT

You can factory reset without rooting.

From phone in power off state.

Hold volUp + power button. Hold them together until it boots into the recovery menu. If you get a bunch of Chinese garbage, power down the phone again and hold VolDown + power button together. That should take you to recovery where you can select Factory Reset.

I'm not at all sure this will solve the problem, but you can give it a shot.

Do I need to back up prior to doing this?

Thank you sir will give it a shot..............

NO factory reset, little green android and very small orange print in upper left corner. There is a factory reset in settings; Backup & Reset - DRM reset - Factory data reset.

Hi there, apologies in advance if I'm mistaken, but unless I'm missing something here and this is a special case or something specific to this phone, you probably will need to back up before a factory reset, especially if carried out from within the phone settings menu rather than via recovery (in my experience at least, I've found the recovery reset will sometimes leave internal "sdcard" partitions alone whereas I'd found the reset via settings to zero the entire device, thus losing anything not backed up from internal "sdcard" type storage, such as photos, etc). But if you have nothing to lose from your internal storage, or everything is already backed up to the cloud, you should be right to go without backup. Apologies again if I've misunderstood the situation.

Cheers,
Mg.
