Screen replacement help please - gazeebo - 2016-05-16 Hi folks, Just wondering if any kind soul out there can assist me in replacing the screen of my IUNI U2/U810 phone, as unfortunately during a rather heavy drinking session last Saturday night I had it in the back pocket of my jeans and ended up sitting down which resulted in the screen getting cracked...although I didn't realize this until waking up on Sunday morning...Doh! I'm able to buy a new screen for about £30 so I thought it's worth trying that instead of binning it and buying a new phone. My question relates to actually replacing it. I'm assuming it's possible as you can buy new ones but wasn't sure how to go about it as i can't see any obvious places where the old screen lifts up. Any help or guides etc would be very much appreciated. Thanks loads, Gaz RE: Screen replacement help please - Sniper47 - 2016-05-16 RE: Screen replacement help please - gazeebo - 2016-05-16 Thanks very much Sniper for the reply. Yowser, you're certainly better off having small nimble fingers to do the job. I'll certainly have a go at doing it but I was thinking about asking the local mobile phone repair shop if they would replace it for me as long as I supplied the screen...you never know!! Also when you say 'suction cupped' what exactly do you mean and using what tool? The replacement screen is I'm fairly sure in two parts...I've yet to find anymore options although I've emailed IUNI themselves to see if they can assist. Thanks again, Gaz. This is the sort of thing that I'm looking at...what do you think? RE: Screen replacement help please - Sniper47 - 2016-05-16 RE: Screen replacement help please - gazeebo - 2016-05-16 Thanks very much for the info mate...much appreciated. I did see that one as well but as usual I went for the cheap option. Is that basically all I need to replace the front of my phone and get it up and running again? I've just come back from my local High Street where I asked about replacing the screen etc and got two affirmatives...one was £15 and the other £20. Admittedly the £20 guy had a much better looking shop so I'll end up giving it to him to rectify. My main stumbling block is how I'll pay for the screen as unfortunately they don't tend to accept Paypal...credit/debit cards plus a few others including Western Union. Have you or anybody else had any dealings with Western Union as there's a few local shops who do it so should be easy to send the cash. Cheers, Gaz RE: Screen replacement help please - IMgroot - 2016-05-16 Right, well that is the best combo of cheap and hassle free given the situation. Just get the front glass and have the shop handle the rest. Assuming the LCD isn't cracked, then that should be all you need. You don't have debit or credit? I wouldn't do Western Union, WU take a big chunk last I remember. RE: Screen replacement help please - gazeebo - 2016-05-17 To be honest I'm not entirely sure what I need, lol. Not to sound like a complete idiot but is the LCD underneath the glass? The glass is deffo cracked but I'm not too sure about the LCD...I did sit on it for a while so might be prudent to get the whole thing. Will the dearer version come with the glass as well, basically everything I need? I've got a credit/debit card but would obviously rather use Paypal. Using Western Union does sound ok(ish) as there is no card details being given, just cash. But, obviously not knowing the company that I'm buying the item from might be a bit risky. Gaz RE: Screen replacement help please - Sniper47 - 2016-05-17 RE: Screen replacement help please - gazeebo - 2016-05-18 Thanks mate for your continued help. Looking a bit more closely at the screen it does look like that it's only the screen that's cracked and not the LCD as well...but I'm not 100% certain. At the top left of the phone near the LED indicator is where the initial damage looks to have started and has cracked from there right down the center of the screen to the bottom middle. When I turn the phone on to the input pass code screen the LCD looks undamaged...but wouldn't the phone work with a cracked glass/screen as I've seen quite a few work colleagues using theirs with knackered cracked glass albeit Iphones!? The £20 phone repair shop did state that they'd order the new parts for me but I'm rather concerned that they've yet to come across an IUNI brand smartphone! I probably need to go back there and have a proper chat with them. RE: Screen replacement help please - gazeebo - 2016-05-20 Quick update... Visited the phone shop today to have a more involved chat...cutting a long story short, my phone is now in their hands. They'll send it off to their repair shop who will inspect the damage and find out what exactly it needs. They will then contact me to inform on the price of parts etc. If I agree to that they will then order the part/s (handily they are a shop which uses Western Union themselves). I'll be reporting back here in a few days time when I hear some news and obviously updating the progress as and when it occurs. Many thanks for your continued help, Gaz. |
