Battery Life? - crush - 2013-09-24

Hi. This is my first post on this forum. Nice to meet you blokes.

I've been looking for a phone for my wife that she can use as a tablet too and carry around in her purse and have good battery life. This is important because she is the worst when it comes to a "charging your phone every night" routine.

I found myself here while checking out the goophone S4 mega which claims to have a 3500mah battery and then stumbled upon you guys and have more or less decided on the inew i6000 2GB Ram version even though it has a smaller batter on paper.

Now my wife will probably have 5-6 calls a day max. but will have 3G-Wifi open all the time. She will surf the net 1-2 hours and play videos for our 3yr old son on youtube for 1 hour max. 1-2 whatsapp messages and thats pretty much it. No games at all.

How long do you guys think the battery will last for her on regular settings? How long does the battery last for you...

Hi and welcome! Cool

I think battery life on this phone is great. But you can't expect a phone of this screen size and intensive use to last longer than 1 / 1.5 day, none of the phablet batteries in those circumstancies will last longer than a day.
In standby mode (WiFi and bluetooth on) I think this battery will last two or three days (it's better than my Note 1), but once you start using it it will suck up battery pretty quickly, which is the case with all phablets, as screen on uses most of the energyl
The good news is, you can buy spare batteries for this phone ;-)

Thanks for the quick reply. So do you think we will get an easy 2 days with light usage?

I have very good battery life than when comparing to galaxy note 2.

Extremely good battery life like 2 days with wifi on

I am really happy with my purchase

I think it should be possible, but it also depends on the apps you use (like weather apps syncing, live wall papers, etc.).

Crush, welcome to the forums, man.

I want to try to better quantify your question. Basically, I view you as asking this:

Is the i6000 battery capable of the following scenario with reasonable margin?
- 45 hours of standby with WiFi / 3G on
- 1 hour of streaming video
- 2 hours of active screen-on time with casual web surfing / messaging
- 0.5 hours of talk time

Has anyone tried similar to see what the drain on battery is? I think the biggest culprit here is going to be the streaming video.

Being that it appears your wife's usage habits are mostly standby, you might really benefit from installing an app like "DS Battery Saver". This app duty-cycles the 3G/WiFi while the screen is off to help maximize battery life during that time.

In any case, good luck!

Welcome, Crush!

All the previous greeters have addressed your concern. As with any mobile device, it's all about managing any wasted energy. My experience with the i6000 is similar to the others, the battery life is excellent. Under normal use, it requires a charge every 3-4 days. The car charger is available or included with some package deals too.

One non-related suggestion is to purchase the i6000 leather case to protect the beautiful display while stored in the wife's purse! It can also be used as a display stand, which may come in handy.

Best wishes!

Thanks for the answers and suggestions.

Wuddawaste, you are spot on with what I want the phone to do. I understand video streaming may be too much. Will the fact that she will use only one sim card make a huge difference?

Pufferaway, 3-4 days is great and the leather case idea is important to keep the baby busy when we are out for dinner.

The only thing keeping me from pushing the button is the idea of a so called UMI Cross that someone gave me which is supposed to be sold after Oct. 8 but I'm not sure I can wait or if it will be any better than the i6000.

The UMI Cross and other upgraded versions of the "i6000" siblings will be coming, no doubt, and the Cross appears to have a much bigger battery (higher efficiency tech), new LDS Antenna, Bluetooth 4, etc.. I don't know much about UMI as a company, from what I've read, their official move into the European market may signal better support than you're likely to get from other Chinese manufacturers... including iNew. The only hesitation I would have is being the one of the first to get the new factory OS. I would merely suggest researching UMI (or any other brand) concerning updates, because if there's a glitch, you may end up being stuck with it or have to jump through hoops in attempt to fix on your own.

Hi umicross people. Just got one a few days ago. I am satisfied with this phone. Just worry battery will die. Where can i buy battery? I got this from umiphones.com, delivery time disappointing. i paid for fast shipping 6-10 days but got instead 3 WEEKS! So i won't buy from there again.
Cheers!
