screen freezing constantly

My v3 is now suffering from screen freeze about every 30 min I have to take the battery out to restart it. Is this a software or hardware problem and is there a fix?

which ROM you are using? Make one test and temporarily uninstall all applications and modules, and wait, and then I'll see you again freezes. Try this one, go into recovery and wipe cache, and if you do not help then flashing a new rom.

It's the original rom (v1.0.4) that came with the phone, it's not even rooted. I cleared the cashe and it didn't make any difference. I don't want to uninstall my apps if I can help it, if I upgrade ROM will I have to reinstall them?

I just assume that your v3 has some bugs, but how do you remove it if you not try. Better and easier to re-install applications that use, rather than every half hour you have to remove the battery. Your v3 now is faulty and can not spoil anything. I would in your situation flashing a new rom, and if you use an SD card, save the file and format, and then in v3 clean. Backup-Restore can restore bug, so I would not have worked
