I can get MTK Droid Root & Tools to see the mini pad but I cant get sp flash to work. I managed to root the device but when I install a different rom it doesn't seem to work.

MTK Droid tools can do backup, recovery ROM of our device, but can’t fix the problem for hard brick device, because sp tools can do more, can flash pre-bootloader, and your device must off condition, mtk droid must turn your device on....different function tools.

Have you ever tried to install from sd card (cwm) doedex rom? Here is the link:
