Unfortunately, this is standard business practice for most China sellers. They are mostly very good before making the sale. When there's a problem, you can pretty much expect them to suck. They usually don't know anything tech wise, even when it comes to the most basic.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth

Best choice will be to find a physical reseller around your country, that way you can have at least 7-day exchange warranty.
I found this really useful as my 1st unit had lots and lots of crashes and force closes.

I usually look on eBay first as I like to buy from local sellers even if they source their stuff from China. It might cost a little more but it is worth it for the peace of mind if/when I need assistance...warranty etc.

I bought mine from ebay. There are some wholesalers that have ebay shops, and I would highly recommend using eBay as opposed to one of those obscure websites. With ebay you get very good buyer protection, and I've heard too many times of people being scammed from obscure websites.
It is often difficult to find some specific devices on ebay, like the Umi X2

I've had positive buying experience from both Geekbuying and Merimobiles. Good prices (maybe not always the cheapest) and useful support
