I have a MT6589 device, currently experiencing "Invalid" IMEI..
Tried all known fix such as MobileUncle, Engineer Mode, NVRAM root folder and still fail. Now, I read somewhere here that I need to reformat my NVRAM by flashing... thing is I need to back up my rom first because before this IMEI issue my phone got bricked/deadboot and I spent almost a month looking for solution until I end up paying someone to fix my phone, He did fix my phone because it's now powering up, can access wifi EXCEPT for the IMEI... Now I am planning to take the matter into my own hand by backing up the current rom and flash it..HOWEVER the only way for me backup my rom to PC is MTK Droid tools...I already have the tools and drivers to do the task HOWEVER whenever I open MTK Droid tool, it's not giving me my phone information just he IMEI null------------will continue later because i guess a miracle happened because while writing this i decided to open MTK again to get a screenshot but now it's showing my phone's information..

Hmmm. Keep us updated regarding this. I assume your phone has already been rooted, yes? When you try to change the IMEI, does it change to something else that is also considered invalid, or does it just reset to null?
Hopefully this problem fixed itself.

@wudda waste...yes my device is rooted...so far here are the things that i've tried including the one on top...
-engineer mode - no fix -> AT command send failed
- MTK Droid - Still showing "NULL" after hundred attempts
- Mobile Uncle - similar to engineer mode fail
-Maui Meta - not sure what's wrong with this but it's not recognizing my phone.
- SN Writer Tool - Tool will show successful but after phone reboot still invalid/null
- another engineer mode where you will put a space between A +EMGR..no fix
- Root Tool Kit no fix...
I am not really sure what to do now...:-(

I just read in one forum thread that in order for the AT command to work, you have to have "Common Data Service" installed. It looks like it's an APK you can sideload from various places on the web. Might be worth looking into. Good luck.

I'll check on that..anyway since you're here...I know someone who uses exactly the same phone..maybe I'll try to back it up and flash it to my phone..any idea about that approach?

From a troubleshooting standpoint, it sounds valid. Then again, my troubleshooting routine is pretty basic:
1. Does this sound like it might work?
2. Is this a new approach I haven't yet tried?
If the answer to both (1) and (2) are true, my vote is typically "Go for it!"
Though from what I understand, you usually lose your IMEI while flashing a ROM and have to restore it after anyway. Hopefully your new ROM will have whatever it is intact that yours doesn't presently have.
