Will provide an update as and when I get around to using it. Want to make a nandroid first....
Thanks for the help Gizbeat as I was already rooted I have installed CWM recovery using Mobile Uncle.
So now I have two backups, one using MTK Droid tools on my PC and am now doing one from within CWM recovery
Hopefully that makes me fairly bulletproof if I decide to dabble with any custom roms that appear...but for now I am just grateful that I can install anything I fancy.

Hi midjet, i also have thl w300 and this is my first android phone, I would like to ask if you have links on how to root this phone and how to install the clockwork mod. I want to root the phone because most of the developer options are missing even if I have already entered developer mode. Thanks!
