[Solved] POMP w89 in boot loop SP Flash Tools won't recognize it
#1
Hello I'm new here so I didn't know exactly where to post this..

So, yesterday I rooted my POMP w89 (a phone I bought 2 days ago) successfully, and after changing the font a couple of times I got caught in a boot loop. I didn't install CWM but I am able to access standard Android System Recovery.

At first I tried wipe data/resetting to factory settings and rebooting after, this didn't work. After I tried also wipe cache, still nothing. So at this point I'm still in a boot loop. Then I read about flashing stock ROM's to android devices. So I download the USB driver, SP Flash Tools and ofc the stock ROM for my phone.

I then tried going through the procedure of flashing the ROM. I put in all the settings, but my computer won't recognize my phone without the battery, so naturally when I try to use SP Flash Tools, nothing happens.

Is it the USB driver? Why doesn't my device show up in device manager unless I have the battery in? Is there any way to flash ROM without SP Flash tools?

btw, my CPU is MTK6589

I hope you guys will take some time to help me, I would really appreciate it.

SOLVED!

If anybody has the same problem, the answer is simple: when you use SP Flash Tools to flash your ROM, unplug your phone before you hit download -> hit download -> **right before you plug it in, put in a battery at least 50 % charged** -> it goes through the process -> aaaand now you're golden

Where did you find the stock rom for W89?

I am also looking for original POMP W89 stock ROM. I downloaded one that says it is official and it bricked the device. Now I am looking for someone that has the same device to make a backup and send it to me. The problem is the driver for the display. When you flash the official firmware it replaces the screen driver and makes the phone unusable. I was able to partially restore the device by replacing LK.bin file from the firmware of another phone with same display size, but it switches the touch commands 180 degrees and the screen is mostly black, and shows the picture only when I press BACK or MENU which are as I mentioned now detected on the upper side of the screen where the speaker is Sad...

nope, still doesn't work... I tried different flash tool versions, took different LK.bin files and only one works with screen rotated 180 degrees...

I have a hard bricked Pomp W89. So bricked that I get nothing. No boot, no charging, no power (despite battery fully charged on an external charger). In fact, it is so bricked that I got to the point of asking on a post here what the dimensions of the batteries are for the w88/w99 in the hope of reusing my spare batteries for something!!!

Anyways, I was hoping to find of/where exactly was the TP (test point) on this device. It may solve our mutual problems.

I am going to do a teardown soon and will keep you posted with data that may help us.

I don't have very much experience with MTK6589 that has formated bootloader, but from what I read about TP (test point) it should be possible to restore it. I am now getting in touch with the factory to see if I can get the original ROM which can solve our problems. I will also ask them if they can tell me where the test point is.
As for the battery I understand you, but don't try to open the battery, because it will become unusable.

I have read the same, so hopefully we can make a go of it. I'll post photos and try try to ground out the TP by luck. I'll keep this updated.

As for the battery, yes, I would not dare open the battery. I was trying to see if the batteries were compatible/would fit other POMP devices. Just in case the W89 cannot be saved, it would be advantageous to have another device (other than another W89) that would take the spares I have.

Finaly received the original firmware from the factory!!!
Here is the link: [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

I tried to flash it using SP flash tools but it gave me error message "brom error : s_ft_enable_dram_fail (4032)".
I tried with different versions of the SP flash tool and I always got the same error.
It only allows me to flash the bad ROM version I flashed before (POMP-W89_V3.06_20130709). Plus I had to replace the LK.bin file from other phone so that the screen works, but the screen touch controls are flipped 180 degrees and the screen is most of the time black, it only shows the image when I press MENU or BACK button which are now recognized at the top of the screen, the HOME button is not recognized.
Also, when I open the MTK Droid Tools software it shows the device as model W99, I guess that it has now wrong drivers and it thinks it is a model W99 and won't allow to switch it to another model or?

Well, no such luck for me on a Test Point. I shorted every contact I could find to ground and nothing. Since I never found out where the TP was, there still may be hope!

Anyways, for your ROM, get yourself to needrom.

Try and download all the ROMS for both the POMP W89 and the Flying F600.

The Flying F600 is the same device, different name, etc. Batteries, cases, back battery panels - everything is interchangeable. I would get all the ROMS available for both products and knock them out one at a time until you get one that you know works. There are some interesting custom ones (an Xperia, MIUI, and colorOS all look interesting) that I was going to try if I could find the TP.

Give them a shot!! If you find one that works, it would be interesting to see which one (and which you like the best).

Cheers.
