Yes it is a text file.

So, I've tried renaming it and redoing the whole thing, even redoing te scatter file but still no joy. A message still comes up saying "Load Scatter File Fail!".

Does it make any difference that mine is MTK6582M and not just MTK6582?

Are you running sp flash tool as administrator? Does the other version of flash tool also give that error?

I am administrator for everything on my computer. There was no problem opening te SP Tools and no message came about having to be admin.

What other SP Tool do you mean?

Doesn't matter. It is still recommended to run the program as administrator.

Yaaayyyyyy!!!! It worked, I think. The alternative Flash Tool did the trick with your file, it wouldn't accept mine. The original tool still said "Fail" even with your scatter file!
Anyway, Readback was a success and I'm now going to download the SU files from the link you gave me.

What I don't understand is what Sniper47 is saying about NVRAM???? What is it and should I do it, and if so, when?

Watch this space - I'll let you know when I've installed SU and if everything is OK.

Glad it worked.
After installing SuperSU, open the app and update binaries. You should be rooted then.

You do the NVRAM backup with MTK Droid Tools once you are rooted.

Problem!!!

In recovery it says:
"Choose package to install".
I point it to:
Update - SuperSU - v2.35.zip

It says:

"Error. Invalid OTA package, missing scatter.
Installation aborted".

Now what's wrong????

Are you sure you were able to flash CWM? It sounds like you are updating from stock recovery, not CWM.
Does it show "rua1 autoCWM v5.5.0.4" at the top?

No, it doesn't.

If Readback said Task Completed, wouldn't CWM have been created and flashed?
