I would try to flash the official Global. It probably won't work through recovery. Will probably need to flash through download mode. Not a big deal. You can try through recovery first, or save some time and just do it through download mode.
I'm not going to touch it and I don't know how to flash. Seems the problem is quite common regardless of rom anyway. It's working and that's all I care about for now.

Right. Makes sense. If you change your mind, there is a tutorial.

I must add that I'm a little ambivalent about this phone. Why would a primary function have such a major glitch? Flash another rom just to make a call? I've only had it two days but I'll post a small review later. Many annoying quirks but the battery life is superb.

Well that is my point. It could be the ROM. When this phone first came out there was no Global ROM, so many of them were flashed with a special version ROM that could have made some problem with it. I'd give the official ROM a try before passing judgement. It's just a suggestion, might help, might not.

I appreciate the advice but users on the official roms are experiencing the same problem. It seems to be happening to people outside China. Haven't checked the Chinese forums to know if it's general. It's an excellent phone otherwise but I'm not sure if it's even as good as my Zenfone 2 to be honest.

Battery life should be better than Zenfone 2, more raw power, marginally better camera. Beyond that I think the user experience should be similar.

No SIM problems here in Thai. We've had a couple of user reviews that had no mention of the issue either. I think ItHurtz makes a logical suggestion to try a different ROM. The Global ROM is relatively new for RN3P, might be worth giving it a go.
I also agree regarding UX-wise that you will experience little to no difference between Z2 and RN3P.

Battery life is in another league compared to the Zenfone. Raw power perhaps but smoothness goes to the Zenfone without a doubt. Don't really care about the camera. But surprise, surprise I prefer the ZenUI to MIUI so far. Of course that could be because I'm used to the ZenUI.

I don't know what the issue is but I won't be flashing a new rom unless something major happens. Are you using both sim slots with local sims? Could be that my roaming sim is the cause. I just don't know.
So far the Zenfone wins but it's truly a pleasure being able to use a powerful phone like the rn3p without even thinking about battery life and power saving. On that basis alone I love it already.

Right. I'm using 2 local SIMs.
Maybe it is an issue with roaming, as you surmise. Seems bizarre that one roaming SIM would make any issue with the other SIM, but I suppose not impossible.
Have you tried 2 local SIM at once?

Haven't tried it with two local sims because that's not how I use my phones. The second sim is my 3 Mobile UK which I use for free roaming data when abroad. If I'm in the US it would be used with a data only T-Mobile sim. I use my Google Voice number worldwide so data is more important to me.
