They often fix or change things we may never notice. Bugs that are only triggered by very specific situations. Generally I don't see changes between ROMs, regardless of phone. Sometimes I wonder why I bother, but got to assume they're improving something (we hope).
Regarding the SMS bug, I have the same issue. I've communicated directly with Innos and it will feedback to the engineers. Hopefully fix coming soon.

It's normal. Problems like these happen with all brands at some point.
Impossible to test the phone in every single situation. Could be a problem with just foreign SIM (for example).

A temporary fix for SMS.
1. Uninstall "Google Messenger". This should make the default SMS app work again (but unfortunately only in CN), so we need to install one that works with English.
2. This one works for me: [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]
3. Allow all contact permissions when asked by system etc...
4. Text away
Innos tech is working on the problem. If you have any specific SMS apps that aren't working after uninstalling Google Messenger, let us know here.
I've also informed them of lack of default Launcher and default SMS app setting. For switching between Launchers, can use this for now: [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

Yes, Google Messenger doesn't work. It's part of the problem. Uninstall.
