Hello,
I just wanted to see if there was a way to get Cyanogenmod on the DooGee F7 Pro. TWRP also. Any way to get root as well? Helios X20 which is awesome.
I've been thinking about getting this phone but I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from AT&T and well AT&T screwed me with a locked bootloader.
Can we get some info here?
Thanks

I can't say about Helio X20, but Helio P10 are coming with locked bootloaders too. You can go through the motions, but when you get to the "Unlock data wipe confirmation" the volume up button is disabled in bootloader mode, so it's impossible to unlock. I've checked 2 and they were both the same.
The good news is that with MTK you can use SP Flash Tool to flash anything you want.
There are rumors about CM for MTK devices, but I think they're fake. Skinned ROMs to look like CM.
Regardless, I wouldn't choose Doogee F7 Pro. Not at $269. Maybe at $80 less at $189, I'd consider it.

That's really sad. With android you get either great hardware and horrible software or great software and horrible hardware.
I'm here in the US, and the F7 Pro has awesome specs for what it is, wouldn't it be more cost effective to have a third party company make the rom for the device, like Cyanogenmod and then lock it so you can't upgrade if the phone manufacturer/carrier wants to? I mean that's not a nice thing to do but if they wanted to so be it.
With MTK the SP tool would let me flash whatever, then what's the deal with a locked bootloader? Isn't that pointless?
I was considering the F7 Pro because at $269 it's lower cost than anything I've seen with good specs.
Too bad about Cyanogenmod, I really like it. I've seen it for at least one MTK device but because support is horrible and you have to buy the source from the company ( at least you can get it ), it could be more like AT&T locking the bootloader so I can't do anything with my phone. I own the hardware so why lock it so I can't do anything with software?

Not really a big deal. Android 6 Marshmallow AOSP is pretty damn good. Only reason to change it is if you like tinkering. And as I mentioned, MTK phones can be flashed with Flash Tool whether bootloader is locked or not.
There are phones with specs as good as this for cheaper. Check out Vernee Apollo.
Beyond that, you're not going to notice any difference between 4gb and 2gb regarding performance.
Regarding the CPU, unless you're rendering video, you won't notice a difference between X20 and P10 or MT6753 for that matter.
GPU might be a reason to want X20, but P10 pushes games pretty well and Snapdragon 650 in Redmi Note 3 Pro will do about as good a job as X20,and that phone is $155 and already tried and true.
I'd take a look at Redmi Note 3 Pro.
Maybe post in "which phone should I buy" forum here with your requirements.

So why bother locking the bootloader if you can write over it with the SP flash tool?
I really want to run a fast phone and have a custom rom like Cyanogenmod. Really can't see spending $700 on a phone that I can't put that on, and it seems like MTK is a more open platform than qualcomm or samsung though you do have to pay for source.
I suppose I should just post in the other forum. I did look at the Vernee Apollo but it didn't have what I wanted. I think it was lacking an SD card slot and I like the fingerprint reader.
Thanks

For me, I like to flash with fastboot whenever possible, but Flash Tool is okay for me too. I don't know why MTK seems to have done this. Or maybe it's a choice manufacturers can make. I've tested 2 Helio P10 phones and both of them were the same, the up volume button is totally disabled so can't complete the process. Not sure if it's a default SOC wide thing from MediaTek, or if it's individually chosen as an option for bootloader by manufacturers.

Phones are fast these days. No need for a custom ROM. Some people are convinced they need them, but I've never found this to be the case.

I will answer you there too
BTW, Vernee Apollo has a fingerprint scanner and option to upgrade storage with SD flash card.
