Hello!
Just joined and thought I would give a quick review and thoughts on my N9000 5.7Inch IPS FHD Screen MTK6589T phone which I have just received last week from geekbuying.
If there is already a thread for this phone ,I apologise in advance ,I did a search and found nothing.
This is my first Chinese phone but I have several Chinese tablets and I do realise that you do have to make allowances for the fact they are so cheap but that I continue to purchase Chinese gadgets shows that I am usually more than happy.
I purchased the phone from geekbuying.com, my first time dealing with this site,it took a week to dispatch but it came eventually.
I paid for DHL delivery so a week to dispatch seemed a little much when then DHL takes 5 days to get it to you on top.(I am in the UK)
Just to say first, I have a galaxy note 2 and I purchased this phone to replace my wifes aging galaxy note 1.
Now to the phone itself.
Excellent screen ,seems to be full hd 1080 x 1920,bright (very) clear and crisp.Better than my note 2 ,I would say.
I ran antutu on it scoring 15444 ,not bad at all,my note 2 only scores about 17500
I ran Geekbench 3 and scored it at single core 396 multicore 1254
both higher than my note 2!
Runs clean android, no silly skins ,smooth performance on the touchscreen.Nice.
WIFI conectivity/strength excellent as good as my Samsung I would say, call quality fine ,no issues.
I had better mention some negatives to balance it out!
Camera ,poor / average, deal breaker for my wife who loves instagram and rejected the phone because of it(my daughter is getting it for xmas instead so no great problem)
In good light conditions it is passable ,low light shooting with flash not so good ,light seems to leak a little into the bottom of the lense from the led flash causing a halo at the bottom of some pictures.
Battery life is acceptable but obviously not as good as the exceptional battery life of a note 2.
When it first arrived ,my wife attached the included extra cover incorporating a front screen cover with a window .A copy of the Samsung cases .
The phone senses when the case is closed and turns on the clock with black backscreen like a Samsung ,showing the time through the case .Great!
Not quite. The battery was not lasting as well as I had hoped and draining fast even overnight and finally I traced it to the fact that when the case was closed and the phone supposedly asleep ,the phone was actually still drawing a lot of power.
I put the original plain back cover on ,no front flap, the battery life improved immediately.
You can also disable it in the settings I found later under daydream.
Battery falls approx. 15% per hour web browsing with auto screen brightness, on wifi.
My wife loves candycrush ,8 ball pool online and this obviously pushed the battery more 30% drop over 1.5 hours.
During the night on standby battery drops about 6% I think.
Not bad at all overall battery life.
You get 2 batteries but my second battery was faulty ,I am trying to get them to send me a new battery but they are insisting I order something else to pack it with,I ordered a spare charger but they want me to order something bigger!!
Charging the battery.
I noticed the battery charge level misreads(I had this before on AINOL tablets).
You have to drain it to shut down point to get a true charge level reading(good practice anyway for battery life longevity)
If you try to top it up ,say from 17% ,you seem to get an immediate jump up to about 47%!
So drain to zero before charging ,not ideal .
I like the phone and hope to find better firmware at some point to address the issues, the camera is a shame but they make these for a price.
Antutu says the model is an Alps n9000 but I can find no info anywhere on this phone.
Can anybody tell me where to buy spare batteries or cases for this model as I have drawn a blank in all my searches.
This phone is a little larger than a note 3 so note 3 cases will not fit .About 5mm longer.2 mm wider.
I reserve judgement on geekbuying until I find if they are sending me a new battery or not.I normally use DX.com or ainols website.
I score the phone 6.5/10, my note 2 being 10/10 to put it in perspective.
Pretty good for the money.I am quite pleased and my daughter will love it.
I hope this covered enough points and wasn't to tedious.
Any thoughts on buying a case ,battery ,firmware updates ,manufacturer or any advice at all would be very much appreciated.
Cheers.
