tried this on 2
Note 3 Android 4.2 3G Phablet with 6 inch IPS WVGA Screen MTK6589 Quad Core 1GB RAM Dual Cameras GPS (Royal Blue)
the phones were originally not keeping a signal for more than 5 mins
after i used the graphical easy root ( which worked in seconds, btw), I tried this method without CWM and could get no signal.
i switched back to the original Modem.IMG file and used the engineering mode in mobileuncle tools and i now have an edge signal that is constant.
but,
if i enable 3G then the signal leaves.
Using an ATT go phone and Straight talk sim. both GSM
Are there any other Modem.img files for the MTK6589 that i could try or should i wait for a custom rom for this model?
will eagerly wait for replies... this is actually the first Chinese phone i successfully rooted, so i am still a neophyte when it comes to this stuff!
love the phones. the company would like is to send them back and try another model, if we would like, we still have about 20 days to do so.
Any feedback is much appreciated!

See [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register], it applies to all MT6589 devices that are currently out.
Since AT&T uses the 850 and 1900 Mhz bands for 3g you won't get any mobile broadband connection with these devices..
T-Mobile seems to be using the 2100 Mhz band ( [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]), which is supported.
Give T-Mobile a try, maybe it'll work.

Star branded phones are also MT6589 devices. So if the devices that you have right now do not work with 3G, the Star devices won't either.

While Max means well, the whole point of the article is that MTK6589 DOES support many different 3G bands. However, it's up to the phone manufacturer to include the radios. So just because JiaYu G4 doesn't have 850 WCDMA, well THL and many Star models and other MTK6589 models do. You also have some MTK6589 phones that are 900/1800 GSM 2100 WCDMA only. This is all up to the manufacturer.
Also, 2100 in the US is useless. It won't help with T-Mobile. You need AWS 1700 AND 2100 to use T-Mobile 3G.
Jlwbcu, From what you wrote, the baseband update has fixed your intermittent signal problem. The reason you're not getting 3G is likely because there isn't any 850MHz 3G service in your area. Many areas in the USA are 1900MHz for 3G. Also, what area are you in? Many parts of the US have no 3G at all
Go into engineering mode and turn off all frequencies except 850 WCDMA, then reset and see if you can make a phone call or go into Android settings and set it to WCDMA only and try to make a phone call.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth

Crap man....That's horrible.
My next model will be UMi X2 MTK6589T. $80-100 cheaper is the THL W100 which is worth a hard look. Depends on your budget.
I'm selling my Hero h7500+ for cheap as well, but it's got a slow-charging issue (5-6 hours for full charge). Though it's got 2 batteries, so with an external charger the problem is solved.
