Broken touchscreen- help fix

Hello to all of you! Unfortunately my touchscreen broke yestrerday and I had to buy a new touchscreen through ebay. I went to a local repair shop and told me that they cannot fix it because digitizer and touchscreen are one piece (i bought only the touchscreen from ebay). Is that true? Is there a guide in order to fix it alone?
