No. This usual FT's message for eMMC on board: eMMC ~> NAND+controller
Phone is brick when it have wrong(or empty as on "factory first time download SW") flash boot. In this case you can see in Device Manager(PC connect) only MTK(or Mediatek) USB Port(Vid_0e8d&Pid_0003 in .inf file), so called bootrom(brom) - hardcoded SoC boot.
When you start Test Memory brom must read(after red stripe - load DA in internal RAM(TCRAM) data from preloader from SW you choose for download(scat file) for initialize external RAM(DRAM). If this data correct(for your device) Test Memory(or Download or etc.) will begin(in last versions FT only DRAM). If not so(error:"DRAM Failed") you must find another preloader(or SW) for yours SoC.
If this is not possible anyway it may be hardware issue - vary bad. You must report the background of brick (as it happened)
