Star S5 Butterlfy
#1
Photo
Hello people,

Just wanted to show you several quick photos of the Star S5 Butterfly - I took all the photos in 4:3 (12mpx) and also in Full Screen mode (6mpx).

The files are too big - so I uploaded them here:
https://plus.google.com/photos/105002708...Kiq6fv94wE

Let me know what you think,

Yuly

Yuly, I'd almost given up hope of anyone posting a picture from their camera other than h7500+. Cool

You're rollin' hi-so. I like the living room. The clear indoor shots especially look very good.

And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could

Thanks,
You killed me with the hi-so (memories from Thong-Lor...) SmilingSmiling
I will also post a full review (as promised) - with video and even a full comparison to the H7500+ once it arrives - so for now I'm playing around with the S5 - which I got rooted - thanks to a lot of help on your forum here Smiling
I flashed the jb 4.2 camera - and will post some more photos - even sunny ones - if there would be sunny days around here.

Well I also own such a phone since about 2 weeks, but I must say the back cam pictures are a lot more noisy than the ones from my A510 tablet. A tad higher resolution, but bad JPEG artifacts (set to 6 Mpx) and as I said noisy. I am a bit disappointed, but as I generally do not use a phone to take pictures, I don't care much.

Worse (but also not relevant for me) is that the front cam is not dust-sealed, see     . Again, I see no use for me for that camera (a notification LED would have come much more handy!), but that's the price I have to pay for a cheap phone.

One suggestion for users that want to enter texts when it is lying on the table, see     and     . The first one is a drop of two-component glue on either side of the bottom, and the other are two rubber foot of some electronics case. A flat back would have been nice, but that's a workaround that does its job.

Just a small comparison:

The "real" compact camera (Canon SX130, 12 MPx):

Then the tablet:

and the S5:

In these lighting conditions, the tablet is noisier than the S5, but there's no way the S5 "12 MPx" cam can match the SX130 "12 MPx"... But then, this is no surprise (comparing a phone cam to a compact cam), this is just for fun ;) I will try to find "better" comparison next time, with better illumination and not macro, how they are doing then.

OK, here it comes. The 6 attachments (I don't know how to place them INSIDE the text here) show the differences.

The competitors were the same:

- Star S5 (12 MP)
- Acer Iconia A510 (5 MP)
- Canon SX130 Compact Camera (12 MP)

All were set to default (Auto ISO, Auto White Balance, ...).

Comments to the "*_1" pictures: The colors of the Iconia are much brighter, crisper than the colors of the S5. Compared to the subject of the photo too much, and it's very blueish. Both lose against the SX130, which is not as obvious as I had to reduce the picture to the same size).

Comments to the "*_2" pictures: do I need some words? Both phones lose by far, the S5 ("12MP"???) is worse than the Iconia. But both look like impressionistic pictures, only usable for simple pictures on small screens. Again, a real camera is a whole dimension better, as I expected, to be honest.

I really doubt the "12 MP" specification. It's the same as if it had 5 or 6 MP.

The morale: for real pictures, use a real camera Smile

I don't know if anybody is interested, but I wanted to do such a comparison for myself, why not publish it?

Christian
