Most of power consumption is attributed to the power amplifiers that keep the phone connected to network, keeping it always available and ready for incoming data, even while deep sleeping.I guess you are right. It must be battery miscalibration. One way or another the battery lasts just for 7-8 hours. Yes the screen is 1080p and the battery only 2000mA. SHIT!
Call standby doesn't mean it is searching for a signal, rather it is keeping the phone tethered to the service provider network. That is not in any way unusual. Typically, cell radio/ cell standby consumes around 70% of battery.
I havent tried battery spy, but seems popular. If you can see the logged on-screen time, then that's fine.
As cookiedough explained, that may easily be a rom bug or miscalibration. You need to find out what the average on-screen time you get on a full charge. If you are getting around 5 to 6 hours, that is fine. For a 1080p screen and ~2AH battery, that's perfectly normal. You may just have to brace yourself and have a charger ready when you hit the 60% mark.
