Help.
Should I run some kind of backup before attempting root?
How?
It seems some of the procedures recommend a backup.
I don't know which comes first, the root or the backup.
Thanks

Dont worry the backup before root. Recommend try framaroot first. That the easiest.

ALWAYS backup before doing anything!
that way you can restore original condition.
if you have mtk cpu you can do a full backup with mtk tools
also no need for rooting tools,
can all be done with mtk tools and sp flash
my phones current and past:
Brand phones:- Samsung Galaxy Apollo/Leo/3 - retired, 2x Samsung Galaxy S - gone, Samsung Galaxy Note - stolen , Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos - retired
- Samsung Galaxy S3
- Samsung Galaxy S4 black edition (work issue)
China phones:- Pinphone 3 (never received), Smarty A8 (MTK6515 HTC Chacha clone), iNew V3 - sold
- Xiaomi Redmi 1s - Wife's daily driver
- Xiaomi MI3 64GB with MagicSim on dual bootMIUI v5 (4.8.22) /CM11
Others:
- ZTE Open (FirefoxOS) - now running ICS! -retired from duty.

OK
One vote for "No Need to Backup"
and
One Vote for "Always Backup".
I have read tutorials from GizBeat and others about backup
and
they ALL seem to say "Phone must be rooted" before using backup tool
help
Exactly what software should I use to back up my 6592 (THL W200S) phone BEFORE I have ROOT privlidges? Supply a link for software download if possible.
Is there more than one set of MTK tools? Is any MTK tool actually provided by MTK?
I just want to be able to restore the phone to original state if something goes awry with rooting or future ROM changes/updates
Thanks
Surely I am not the only NooBee who has felt frustrated by these confusing "guides" from technical experts.

I guess one thing is warranty void
If I can remove evidence of root
and still have problem
then
I could get warranty coverage
Im not so sure about some "unroot" or delete of files.
Thanks

mtk droid tools do not require root to backup the phone.
if you want to use eg. Titanium Backup then yes.
i am weary of one-click-root since i heard some of them install you background programs which you cannot get rid of anymore.
same as with the mobileuncle tools which "call home".
maybe i am just a bit paranoid, but if talking about root, for me only SuperSU and Superuser are "safe" programs.

Hi, I think you should make a copy of the original ROM before doing anything on the phone.
While I understand that do not pose a risk to root the phone.
A greeting.
